Linda was getting on my last nerve. When I arrived at our lake house from getting home late from seeing my mother in the hospital who was dying of cancer, she screamed at me. "Where the fuck were you?" "Linda, my mother is not doing well. Don't you know that? Ask my sister Jane, I was there with her." Linda purses her lips. "Sure, like you weren't in Syracuse with Mike doing God only knows what!" I clenched my fist. Patience. I closed my eyes and imagined her in my head. Her slim thick body, tan, soft, glimmering skin, soft lips, big hazel eyes, all of her. I just wanted to be next to her and kiss her. But, because of my bitchy wife Linda lately, it has been hard to sneak around. I have had other hookups and arrangements on the side, but she was different. All the other girls were the same. They just wanted money and to use me. I walked to the kitchen and poured myself a glass of bourbon. Linda kept screaming about me. "Look, Bruce, you have been acting weird. I have to keep this house looking spotless and keep on top of hosting all these fucking parties because you go around whoring off at the hospital all day long looking at these young nurses who I know for a fact want to be with you!" I took a big gulp from my cold glass, and turned to look at her. "I'm fine. I'm not looking at anyone from work! I've had a long day, just, let me go to bed." She kept on screaming, but I walked upstairs as my hand got cold from me clenching the glass. The more I drank the bourbon, I toned Linda out more. I grabbed my phone from my back jean pocket and texted her. "So sorry about that. Promise I will make it up to you." I took yet another sip from my glass which was almost empty. I locked the door and closed my eyes and imagined her naked.
I woke up from the couch of Mike and Bruce's apartment and dragged my feet to the bathroom. I was exhausted. I could not sleep because I heard Jessica moan all night. My makeup was smudged and I looked like shit. I washed my face and walked into their bedroom. Jessica and Mike were cuddling in bed. I smiled at them. I just wanted to be like that with somebody. I sighed. Bruce is married, like that would ever happen. My best friend opened her eyes. "Oh, hi." Michael got out of bed and turned on the shower. "So, you had fun last night." I said to her with pursed lips. "Yeah, did you?" "Bruce left early before anything could happen." "He likes to slack off. He's so weird. One time while Mike and I were out at dinner, Bruce was having dinner with us, he said he had to go to the bathroom and he never came back." I crossed my brows. "Oh?" I chuckled at the thought. That is kind of weird. My phone lit up and I saw a Venmo payment from Bruce of 500$. "Commission." I showed her my phone. "Well, shit. You got paid and you did not even do the job." Michael came back into the room. "Yeah, sorry about Bruce. He's an unreliable shithead." "It's whatever." I wish he stayed the night though. Once Jessica and I got all of our things, Mike kissed her goodbye. "Have a good day at work." She hugged him one more time and I turned on my car. She hopped in the passenger seat and I headed home.
Being at the hospital all day long with loads of cases to do was not really fun for me. I needed to get all the stress off of my mind. Linda had already called me three times that day and it was not even 4 in the afternoon. Bitch, I'm at work! Leave me alone. "Mr. Broderick, a patient in the ICU needs to be analyzed before she goes through the MRI. She is eleven, she had a seizure with unknown circumstances." Amanda leaned over my desk trying to show me stuff. I put on my glasses, spinned my chair around, and got up. "Thanks Amanda." I gave her a slight smile. She bit her lip and walked quickly out of my office. I ran my fingers through my hair, and looked at some of the selfies Mike had showed me before meeting her. I walked into the MRI room on the opposite end of the hospital. My phone buzzed. Another text from Linda. "When are you coming home?" I rolled my eyes. Mike had also texted me. "Are you ever going to stay the whole night when a girl is there?" I thought to myself. I've brought a couple of girls here and there to the apartment, but I only wanted hookups with them. Nothing too serious to get me out of trouble. When I opened the door, all eyes were on me. It reminded me that I was in control of my life. I texted the one person I wanted to the most. "What is your schedule like next week?"
