CHAPTER TWO

I felt something shaking me. The fuck. Is this earthquake or something? I opened my eyes to see what it is. Damn, it was Nico. Jumping on my bed. He opened the lights and it stung my eyes.

"Shit." I whispered so he won't hear. I don't want him learning these words until he is grown.

"Wake up, sleepyhead!" He said while continuing to jump.

"I am now." I removed the duvet out of my body then jumped off of my bed.

"Go fast honey, Devon is waiting outside." My mom said calmly.

"WHAT?! Wait, what time is it?" I asked, rubbing my head.

"It's 7:47, honey." My mom said, still staying calm while my brother is going crazy.

"Crap, I'm sorry. I'll be ready in a minute." I rushed to the bathroom to brush my teeth and have a quick shower. I was brushing my teeth while putting shampoo and conditioner in my hair at the same time I think multi-tasking can work for me. I finished in 3 minutes. Time to blow-dry my hair. I clipped my hair to the side so I won't cover my whole face with my hair. Then wore my new black hoodie, jeans, and blue Vans. I grabbed the other hoodie and shoes which I will give to Devon.

My feet rushed downstairs fastly. As I went to the kitchen, it was empty. I guess all of them left already. Maybe I was too slow. I made a loud sigh then walked to the front door.

"SURPRISE!!!!!" Mom, Devon, and Nico shouted at me as I opened the door. They were holding a cake, balloons, and gifts. It didn't made me jump nor startle me.

I felt weird at the moment actually.

"It's not my birthday." I said seriously then placed the keys inside the door knob so I can lock it.

"We know, but it's your day." Devon said, handing me the balloons. He wiggled his eyebrows and smirked. Which made me chuckle. It always made me laugh every time he does that.

"Come on guys, we're late." I paused, then game them my serious face. "Okay fine. I'm walking then." I continued, then as I turned my heel and walked out of them, I saw the main surprise in this moment. I didn't know if I should breathe, or cry, or shout.

Dad is standing in front of me, spreading his arms and waiting for me to give him a big hug. I placed my hands on my mouth, and I can't stop my happy tears from falling. I looked at the three who were waiting for me by the door. They were all smiling. And I can see my mom's eyes getting watered up too. I glanced back at my dad and ran towards him with my arms open too. I gave him a tight hug and cried at his shoulders. I can't stop it. I am too happy. Finally, after 2 years of waiting, I now get to see my dad.

After that emotional scene, we finally went inside the house. I suddenly, remembered something. We're late for school. My eyes turned wide and I looked at Devon who was actually enjoying and eating waffles that my mom made. He gave me a confused look and we went like that for minutes. So I started talking.

"Devon! We're late!" I shouted and hanged my bag on my shoulders.

"That's what you think." He said. Then my face went really blank. He pulled out his iPhone out of his pockets and showed me the time. It was 6:53am.

"HOW?" I shouted, panicking. They musn't be joking this time. It's the first day of school.

"Chill, Rian. Well yesterday, Devon and I have been talking about things. He actually slept here last night, and we talked how things are going to go. We waited for your dad to arrive. So we decided to surprise you, we changed your alarm clock, and every clock here in the house. Including your phone." Mom explained. And I can see they were all smiling.

"You were knocked out easily last night, actually." Devon chuckled and shook his head.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"When I sneaked up in your room, you were like a cocoon. You slept deeper than your brother. Then I changed the time in your phone." he said. Then gave me a smirk. My dad patted him at the back while chewing his waffle. "Good job, Devon."

"I hate all of you. I have to rush everything in the bathroom just because I thought we were late." I paused. And their faces were priceles. "But it's all worth it!" I continued, then smiled like a child in front of them.

All of us went to the living room as we finished eating. Mom was washing the dishes while talking with dad. Devon and I were sitting in the couch. And suddenly I remembered something. "Oh hey, Devon my dad got something for you."

I handed the hoodie and the shoe box to him. And saw his jaw  dropped. I placed my hand under his chin to close it. We both laughed and he finally wore it. My mom saw us wearing the same hoodie and smiled. "Aw, cute." She said. Good thing my mom didn't see us like a couple or something. She only see's us as best friends. I remember her telling me that if Devon made a move to me, I'll tell it to her immediately because she'll easily approve him. But I didn't mind that thing anymore, cause I know that we'll just be best friends forever, and not end up like those couples in tumblr who become best friends and end up as cute couples.

"We better get going. It's 7:45." Devon said, glancing at his watch. I looked at him seriously, and he smiled at me.

"Is this for real now?" I asked seriously. And I heard my parents laughing.

"Totally, serious." He said. So I believed him. We both got up and went to the kitchen to say bye to my parents.

"Mom, dad. We're going now." I gave them a smirk and so did Devon.

"Okay, good luck!" Both of my parents said and I both gave them a hug. Soon, Devon went in the group and gave us all a group hug.

I opened the passenger's seat. Then made a last wave to my parents.  As Devon and I sat down in silent in his car, I made a loud sigh.

"MOSH!" I said, which means 'go'. I got it from a movie, but I don't remember what movie it is.

"Yes ma'am." Devon replied and made a salute.

He now started driving. Then I turned the radio on. It played the song 'Lucky' by Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait. We sat on the car in silence, and I focused on the lyrics of the song.

"I'm lucky I'm inlove with my best friend,

lucky to have been where I have been.

Lucky to be coming home again.

Lucky we're inlove in every way.

Lucky to have stayed where we have stayed."

"This song is too awkward." Devon said, then turned off the radio.

"Why?" I asked.

"Falling inlove with a best friend. That's like, wow. It's very weird actually." He explained.

"Why'd you think it is? Best friends that turn into couples are cute." I said.

"Best friends, then a couple? When they break up, they'll be strangers again. Now what will happen to their memories of being best friends?" He paused. "You think they're cute because that's what you see in tumblr." He continued.

I looked at him. And thought that maybe he was right. Falling inlove with a best friend is not a good thing. It may just turn as a failure after they break up. I soon opened my mouth and got ready for words, but he stopped me and waved a finger.

"And if you're thinking that what if they'll be forever? No. They won't." He said, then shook his head on his last words.

He read my mind. I think forever doesn't really last.
