TW (Trigger Warning) – Uh... I can't think of anything specific, just an intense tone overall. If anything bothers you in this chapter, this oneshot book is probably not for you, unfortunately.
You were asleep when it first happened. Innocent. Ignorant. Blissfully ignorant.
But that didn't last.
You shivered as you woke up, a strange reverse reaction to the Seoul summer heat – or at least, that's what you decided. Throwing your sheet to the side, you tried to cool down so you could fall back asleep. That's when you saw a shadow move on the wall.
It wasn't a reflection from headlights sliding smoothly across the shape of your window like you had grown used to. It wasn't a branch swaying in a breeze. It was hesitant, uncertain but subtle. It was a shadow that knew its business, was watching its own progress with a focus perhaps more intense than yours.
Repressing another shudder, you looked over your shoulder. Eyes burned at you from the darkness behind your bed. With a panicked rush you sat up, staring at them as you twisted to see better. You never should have decided to sleep with your head on the end of your bed that wasn't against the wall.
"Hongjoong?" you breathed, willing it to answer. It was about the right height for your boyfriend, but the situation was so strange-
"Yes, my love?" his voice responded, equally soft but rather strange.
Your guard didn't go down. Hongjoong may have had a key to your apartment, but he rarely came over since his schedule was so full, and he never came at night, much less appeared unannounced in your bedroom while you slept.
"What are you doing here?" you demanded. Above those intense eyes you could see the brim of a hat. The rest of the face was obscured by something. A mask? Chains jingled softly as it stepped towards you.
"I came to see you," it purred. It was Hongjoong's voice, and yet it wasn't. Poison and power played in the sound, and you knew it reveled in your uncomfortableness. Hongjoong never would.
It pulled down a black mask that blended into the darkness cloaking its figure and smiled. The white teeth, Hongjoong's smile – you gasped and pulled back.
Hide, your mind said. Away. Sheets. Safety.
The thin material felt like iron protection as you dove under your sheet, and you didn't dare to uncover yourself. Impossibly, unnaturally, you found yourself instantly falling asleep. As your body surrendered to rest you heard one last phrase whispered in the dark, so gently it was menacing.
"If only you knew."
The whole thing was probably just a dream.
