TW – Some gore/violence/blood, but not much worse than "normal" for this book
"No, we're not dating," Seonghwa told a lady who had decided to comment on the two of you. Neither of you batted an eye at her words, and his response was so casual it made you smile. Over the years you had gotten good at deflecting such incorrect observations.
You really valued your friendship with Seonghwa because the two of your always knew where you stood with each other. In fact, you had an annual Best Friends Meeting just for that purpose. It consisted of baking cookies together while talking with each other about your feelings and everything that had happened throughout the last year. It always ended with a movie marathon while you cuddled and ate the cookies you had made.
Seonghwa was trustworthy. If he had feelings for you he would tell you, and that gave you freedom to be yourself around him. He also made a spectacular best friend. It was strange to think you met him in highschool – you acted like friends who knew each other from the cradle.
"Come on," Seonghwa said, grabbing your hand when the bus reached your stop. You followed him off cheerfully.
That was another reason people perpetually assumed you were dating – not only were you a young man and woman who were clearly quite close and happy together, you both enjoyed physical affection and often held hands or playfully shoved each other. As if that wasn't enough, you consistently wore matching outfits by accident – mostly because you always went shopping together and owned practically identical closets.
The mall wasn't too busy, and you milled through your favorite shops with Seonghwa, looking for discounted clothes and interesting knickknacks.
"Soon you'll be an idol and you'll have all the clothes you could want," you said, a little sadly.
Seonghwa looked up at you, his expression sympathetic. "Don't talk like that, Y/N. You make it sound like I'm going to die. Yes, my debut will change things. But I'll still be your friend, and we'll still get to hang out, even if it's different in some ways."
"I wasn't talking about that!" you whined, annoyed that he had read your mind so clearly. "I was jealous that you'll have fancy clothes and I won't."
He laughed, and nudged your shoulder with his. "I'll let you steal some from me when I can."
"You know I wear a different size!"
"Yeah, it's the only reason there's a difference between your clothes and mine."
"I can't help it if you're following my excellent example and taste in clothing."
Continuing to banter, you wandered the mall together, only stopping for lunch and to cause some harmless mischief.
That evening, after Seonghwa had dropped you off at your apartment, you got a call from your aunt.
