TW – The dog dies. Also murder, to no one's surprise by this point.
"You can't catch me!" San yelled, dashing across the parking lot ahead of you. You followed, trying to gasp for breath and laugh at the same time. Rain sprinkled from above, dark except for occasional flashes of light reflected from the neon sign that crowned the empty area.
"Stop," you begged through your laughter.
"No!"
You slowed to a stop and pouted. "But then I can't cuddle my Sani."
He sighed, the puff of air lifting his bangs and matching your pout.
"Fine." When he held out his arms you jogged up to him and started to give him a hug. But as soon as you touched him his dimpled smile appeared, signifying mischief, and he picked you up and twirled you around.
"San!" His laughter was your only answer. You weren't actually annoyed - how could you be? After your parents kicked you out you had come to rely on San, and his teasing was what kept you sane.
Especially with what always happened on Fridays.
Like every week, Friday came far too quickly. You woke up before dawn, and internally cursed yourself for it. The weekly torment was getting worse, and you didn't want it to start sooner than necessary.
But here you were, so you decided to get ready. San was still asleep in his room across the hall, the red streak in his hair starting to show. How you loved and hated that patch of color in the black.
"Good morning," he rasped when you returned from your shower. His eyes were barely open, dark slits that contained emotions you could never understand. Your curiosity, like always, battled with your disgust.
San was not human. At least, not on Fridays. He, along with the other members of his idol group, contained monsters. You didn't know exactly how it worked, just that they all had slightly different rules. Several could choose to change forms, while others like San were on a schedule.
Somehow it fit into the life of being an idol, although you never understood how fans could stare into this creature's eyes and think he was the same San that slept with his plushies.
You knew better.
"Morning," you answered curtly. You had a truce of sorts with San's monster that helped you tolerate him, but you still hated being stuck at home with him. The bargain you had created was that he didn't touch you, and you didn't leave him alone.
You were used to San being clingy, but this was different. On Fridays he demanded your presence, and his eyes never left you. It felt like he was devouring you with his gaze. You hadn't realized until you moved in with San how much someone could invade your personal space while never touching you.
