chapter 2 : getting closer

James POV

I woke up early, 6am. The other Marauders woke up at 6:30am.

Instead of getting up and ready I just laid in bed thinking of Regulus.

I thought of his perfect hair, clean cut dressing, pale skin, soft hands, beautiful smile, sarcastic humor, his everything. I loved everything about this boy. Wait- no! He's Sirius'brother. I can't love my best friends brother that's like rule number 4 of the bro code.

I got up trying to shake the thoughts of Regulus out of my head but failed completely.

I showered and 'dealt' with an issue Regulus caused. I got dressed and grabbed my wand. I slid it into it's pocket in my robe and I walked out of the room, forgetting the other Marauders.

I went to breakfast much earlier than I'm used to. I only saw Ravenclaws and Slytherins, most studying as they ate.

I saw Regulus, alone, reading and blushed. God he's beautiful. I thought before catching myself. He still had his bandages showing on his hands and he just looked gorgeous.

I ate watching Regulus read while others slowly began to pile in.

"Prongs" "prooonngggsss" "James" "Jameson" "Potter" "guys we've lost James" Sirius said poking my shoulder and shaking me.

Remus laughed a little as I snapped back to reality. "A little lost in dream land there James?" Remus asked sitting down.

"Sorry guys I didn't sleep well, I'm kinda out of it today" I responded.

We started eating and minutes after Sirius had arrived I saw Regulus look up and close his book. I tried smiling at him but he didn't send one back.
He grabbed his coffee cup and left, emotionless. I didn't question it further and finished eating.

I decided to skip 3rd period since I wasn't able to pay attention in class and was loosing more house points by doing so then if I just skipped.

I walked around the school with the Marauders map making sure I didn't run into a teacher. I was so focused on the map I didn't see myself walk into a wall. I heard a snort and snapped my head up.

I immediately blushed as I saw Regulus walking by. I ran up to him, obviously.

"Hey Reggie" I said wrapping my arm around his shoulders.

"You have 5seconds to remove your arm before you can no longer play quidditch" he said in a completely monotone voice. I quickly removed my arm.

"Regulus? What are you doing with a Potter?" A voice said from behind us.

"Go to the lake" Regulus whispered quickly to me before turning around.

"Hello Bellatrix. Potter is just annoying me with crap about Sirius and his perfect life now that he's no longer a member of our family." Regulus said pushing me down the hill towards the lake.

I saw him continue to talk to his cousin. I sighed and walked to the lake like he had asked me to do.

He walked down the hill a few minutes later and grabbed my arm.

"Come on, Potter" he said smiling a little. I loved this side of Regulus. I never knew it existed, Sirius never spoke of Regulus in a positive way anymore.

Regulus brought me to a rock in the forest I stood there confused. He held out his wand and said a weird spell I didn't know.

The rock revealed a staircase. I gasped a little.

"So lil Regulus black has a secret cave on Hogwarts ground. What would your parents think of this?" I said in a mocking tone.

"Oh please if they found out I'd kill myself before they could kill me" Regulus said laughing as he walked down.
