It was a snowy day in Inkopolis. An inkling with pink tentacles sat on the couch watching the snow flutter by. His mind wandered to a few winters ago, a time where, despite many people's beliefs, he really struggled.
I still remember, third of December.
"Aloha!" What are you doing out here! And without a jacket too!" An inkling with orange tentacles yelled. Aloha whirled around to see Army running at him.
"Ah, Army! What are you doing here!" Aloha smiled.
"That doesn't matter." Army scolds. "What matters is making sure you don't catch a cold!" Army grumbled and pulled off his parka. "Here." He says handing the parka to Aloha.
Me in your sweater.
You said it looked better on me than it did you.
"There." Army said after wrapping Aloha in the parka. "You look nice." Aloha smiled as he looked into Army's orange eyes.
Only if you knew
how much I liked you.
"Army?" A voice called out. A female inkling that wore the same beret that Army did walked up to them. Aloha recognized her as Forge from Army's team.
But I watch your eyes as she walks by.
What a sight for sore eyes
Brighter than a blue sky.
"Ah! Forge!" Army smiles. "I was just preparing to come back to you guys." Army turns to face me. "Head home Aloha, or you'll catch a death of a cold out here." He nods. I nod grimly and turn back home.
She's got you mesmerized
While I die.
Aloha's mind flashes to a few days later. Aloha met Army at a cafe to return his parka.
"Aloha! Perfect timing!" Army smiles. "You see, Forge accidentally left her coat!"
"I see!" I say faking a smile.
Army takes the parka and drapes it over Forge's shoulders. She smiles and thanks him
"Guess I'll see you later?" I say.
"I suppose so." I nod. I take a seat far away from where Army's team is sitting, but still in a spot where I can see them. Army's team talk excitedly back and forth with one another.
Watch as she stands with her holding your hand.
Forge accidentally hits her drink with her arm and jumps up, grabbing Army's hand in surprise.
Put your arm 'round her shoulder.
Army wraps his arm around Forge's shoulder reassuringly as the rest of the team laughs. I feel myself shiver.
Now I'm getting colder.
Aloha's mind once again speeds forward to a different date and time. This time, it's at his own Valentine's day party.
Aloha sits on the couch, chatting with some of the guests. He smiles as the crowd around him laughs at his story. He really couldn't wish for anything more.
Well, there was one thing.
"I'll be right back guys." Aloha says standing up. "Gotta make sure everyone's having fun."
"Okay Aloha!" The group of inklings shout. Aloha walks to the balcony where a certain orange inkling stands by himself.
"Hey Army." Aloha says. Army jumps in surprise.
"Ah! Oh, it's just you Aloha." Army sighs. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be worrying about your party?"
"I wanted to know why your all by yourself out here!" Aloha says.
"I'm not really a party person, you know this Aloha." Army says.
"Shouldn't you be with Forge?" Aloha says tilting his head.
"What do you mean?" Army responds.
"Well, it IS a Valentine's party after all~" Aloha winks.
"Are you suggesting I'm in love with Forge?" Army exclaims.
"Don't play dumb, I've seen the way you two act." Aloha says nudging Army.
"Well, I THOUGHT I loved her, but it turns out my heart belongs to someone else." Army mutters.
"Well~ Who's the lucky squid?" Aloha hums.
"Well.." Army says. "Don't hate me for this." Army then quickly cups Aloha's face in his hands, pulling him in for a kiss. Aloha's eye's widen in surprise.
Why would you ever kiss me?
I'm not even half as pretty.
Army quickly pulls away. "I'm sorry." He mutters.
"Me?" Aloha mumbles. "But I thought..."
You gave her your sweater
It's just polyester
But you like her better
I wish I was Heather.
"I thought you hated me." Aloha exclaims. "I thought you thought I was a good-for-nothing party animal who couldn't take anything seriously!"
"I-" Army starts.
"And Forge is the completely the opposite of that! She clearly loves you! Why would you choose me over her?" Aloha interrupts.
"I-I don't know." Army says. "I thought I hated you too, but after spending time with you I realized, I'd rather have you than anyone else! I-"
Aloha cuts him off by planting another kiss on Army's lips. Army freezes at first, but then returns the kiss.
"Thank you." Aloha says after breaking apart.
"For what?" Army says.
"For telling me, for... this." Aloha simply responds.
"I love you." Army says.
"'I love you too." Aloha smiles.
--------------------------------------
"Aloha? Aloha?" Army calls. Aloha snaps back into reality. Army is standing by the couch with two mugs of hot chocolate.
"Hm~" Aloha hums.
"Glad to see you back to earth." Army says handing Aloha the hot chocolate and sitting down beside him.
"Just thinking." Aloha responds.
"Mhm, about anything in peculiar?" Army says wrapping him and Aloha in a blanket. Aloha is quiet for a minute before speaking up.
"Remember when we first confessed our love for each other?" Aloha asks.
"Yes?" Army responds.
"Remember that you told me that you'd rather have me over anyone else?" Aloha asks.
"Yes?" Army responds again.
"I don't think you realize how much those words meant to me." Aloha smiled leaning into Army. Army just smiles.
"I still go by my word." He says.
"I know." Aloha says.
I wish I were....
