Teddy Bear with a Heart-Shaped Nose:

The gathered crowd watches idly, Justin focussing all his attention on the moving target - the air in the atmosphere disappearing as the ball leaves his grasp.  A loud cheer rings out as he knocks over the final bowling pin, the crowd going crazy.

"Yes I did it!  I knocked them all down!"  In his excited cheer he pulls me in for a bro hug, jumping whilst simultaneously wrapping his arms around me - overjoyed by his victory.  I reciprocate the hug, his infectious energy fitting for the carnival.  His hug tightens, the familiar cologne entering my nostrils as I ease into his shoulder.

He releases, still cheering himself on - his already large ego inflated that much more.

"Can I please have that brown teddy bear, with the heart nose, for my prize?"  He asks politely to the vendor - the man handing over the hand-sized teddy bear.  "Here you go.  This is for you Eddy."  I accept the prize, perplexed at its presentation.

"Don't you want to give this to a girl?  I mean...it has a heart on it and everything?"  He just shrugs it off, the noise falling away as we walk into a less populated part of the carnival.

"Oh welp.  There's no girl here.  You can have it.  Just a bro giving his other bro a teddy bear - nothing great about it."  His suave smile downplaying the bear.  He suddenly stops, his eyes gazing upwards.  I follow their direction, impressed by the sheer size of the ferris wheel in front of us, the same playful smile spreading across Justin's lips.

"Bro!  We have to go on the ferris wheel!  Look how high that shit goes!"  I continue gawking at it, the impressive size now a tad intimidating - its height sending a shiver down my back.

"Um Justin.   I'm kind of scared of hei-"  I'm unable to finish my sentence, his fingers wrapping around mine as he pulls me towards the ride, the short line dispersing as he charges to the front.
"Two tickets for two people please!"  He announces loudly, the bored ride operator opening up the seat for us.

"Justin."  He pauses, looking back at me, concern in his eyes.  "I'm scared of heights."  I admit, prepared for him to laugh at me.  Surprisingly he doesn't - his thumb swiping across my hand for encouragement.

"Eddy.  Don't be afraid.  I'll keep you safe."  His cool, calm, collected demeanour persuades me into the seat - an audible gulp leaving my throat as the ride starts.  With Justin's hand in one, and the teddy bear in the other, I clench tightly as we slowly start ascending.  Justin looks at me, humoured by my fear.

"So you're telling me that you can go on a field.  Tackle some guys.  Get slammed into dirt.  But you can't ride into the sky?"  I roll my eyes at his obvious mockery, his hearty laugh relaxing my clenching fists.

The bright lights and blaring music seem distant as we reach the pinnacle of the ride - the wheel stopping, giving us the perfect view over the muffled traffic of the carnival.  A light wind picks up, goosebumps arising on my exposed skin.  I mentally curse at myself for not grabbing a jacket on the way out.  My shivering doesn't go unnoticed, Justin looking at me confused.

"You can have my jacket if you're cold.  I know it's a Buckingham jacket...and you're not really cool enough to wear it...but you can if you want."  His cheeky humour making me forget the height of the ride.

"No it's alright.  I'm not that cold."  I lie to him, not wanting to inconvenience him.

"Don't be stupid."  He sits forward a bit, releasing my hand and sliding out of his jacket.  My protests go ignored as he wraps the jacket around me, the thick material an instant blockade against the chilly air.

"We need a picture to celebrate this event."  I watch curiously as he pulls his phone out of his pocket, opening up snapchat.  "Smile Eddy, you look prettier with a smile on your face."  He says as he holds the phone out.  The phone flashes, freezing the moment in time.

"Can I see?"

"We're two sexy mother fuckers."  He jokes as he examines the photo.  As the ride continues, he slips his hand back into mine;  almost as if it belongs there.

"Thanks for the ride."  Justin says to the operator as we hop off, his fingers slipping away as we move back into the carnival crowd;  my fingers strangely missing the warmth of his touch.  "What do you wanna do now?"  I ponder the question to myself, pushing the teddy bear into my pocket to free up my hand.

"Wanna go watch football at the bar?  I kind of feel like a drink after that ride."

"If there's one thing I love more then football, it's getting drunk."  I laugh at his confident energy.  He starts walking ahead of me, a buzzing in my pocket stealing my attention away.

I look at my glowing screen, Tralee's name popping up.  Battling an internal conflict in my head, I swipe the notification away, jogging a bit to catch up to Justin.

**********

"CATCH IT."  We both yell in unison, slumping back into our chairs as the wide receiver fumbles the ball, dropping it onto the ground - the whole bar sighing in disappointment.

"They're gonna need a miracle to win."  Justin says, his intoxicated tone thickened as he downs another cup of beer, signalling to the waitress to bring another jug over.  Downing my own cup, my blurred vision gets the best of me, I reach for the table to support my weight, grabbing Justin's hand instead.

"If you wanted to hold my hand, you could've just asked.  I know I'm pretty and all."  His usually corny jokes are now hilarious - amplified by the alcohol.  I release his hand, moving it to my stomach - gasping for air as I add to the noisy bar with my laughter.

The communal volume changes, our team scoring another touchdown - tying the rivalling professional football teams;  even Justin's quiet - and he's never quiet.

Collectively we watch in awe as the centre passes the ball back to the quarterback, the air whistling around the ball as the strategic mechanics of the group push it forwards.  Finally, it makes its way to the end zone, where its scored - eliminating the rare silence of the bar as they erupt back into celebratory cheering.

"THAT WAS FUKING PERFECT!!!!"  Justin screams, manoeuvring around the table to hug me - picking me up in the process.  The air below me mimicking heaven as we hug in a victorious embrace.  "We need another jug to celebrate!"  He screams into my face, signalling once again to to waitress for the millionth time.

Night passes into the early hours of the morning, the jugs of bear accumulating as the amount of people dwindle to a scattered few.

The beer flows easily down my throat, my vision now a coloured blur.  Justin takes my hand, dragging me to the dance floor - his palms wrapping around my waist as we start dancing to the blaring music.

His face is the last thing I remember before I black out.

A/N

I'd like to offer a PSA:  I do not know anything about football, so I'm sorry if the terminology is mucked up in the chapter.  We don't even play football in my country, we play rugby, so I was just guessing about everything if we're being honest! xD

Anyways, this chapter is so fun.  What'd you guys think of everything that happened in it?  Leave your thoughts in the comments below.

Also, sorry for leaving you on a cliff-hanger - I wonder what's going to happen when he wakes up?  Tune into next chapter to see! :)
