Red Lipstick Stain:

I pause in front of the doorframe, my nerves amplified by the foreign dorm.  My hand hovers over the door - suspended;  my heartbeat filling the elongated silence of my still body - frozen by anxiety.  Cheering from a nearby room spooks me, the sounds and rumbles of a student dorm on a Saturday night coming through full force.

I gulp, pausing to motivate myself further.  Wrapping my fingers into a fist, I knock on the wooden door - greeted with nothing.  Fueled by further silence, my unease increases.  I knock again, receiving the same silence in return.

Unwilling to wait outside in the hallway, I twist the handle, walking into the dimly lit bedroom.

"Justin?  It's me Eddy."  Pushing into his room, I flick on the light - illuminating the plain bedroom;  his varsity jacket hanging loosely off of my arm.  I disappointedly stare around the empty room.  Of course he's not here;  he's got a life, there's no way he'd be just sitting around waiting for me on a Saturday night. It's not like I wanted him to be here anyways, right?  Yeah?  All I wanted was to bring back his jacket.

My eyes roam onto the wall, a singular photo hanging idly next to his bright red Buckingham banner.  It's me;  well, it's us - it's the photo he took on top of the Ferris Wheel - his bright red jersey clung tightly around my shoulders.

I reminisce, rubbing the material between my fingers.  Bringing it up to my nose, Justin's familiar scent floods my senses;  a mixture of alcohol, mint and pine fusing the form the aroma of the boy who broke into my dorm room - each scent elevating memories from our short, but haste, friendship.

My moment of recollection is disturbed as the handle twists, the door swinging open behind me;  Justin and a girl stumbling into the room, their laughter halted as I lock eyes with them.  Justin's hand drops down from around her waist, his drunken gaze greeting mine - a silence befalling upon the room as we exchange a conversation of silent confusion.

"Uh hey Justin."  I break the silence, the blond girl walking back to Justin's side, relaxing as she realises that we know each other.  "I just brought your jacket that you left in my ro- that you left at the party last night!"  I extend it out, almost as a metaphorical olive branch - his arm reaching out to accept it.

"Um thanks Eddy;  sorry I forgot it, I um - I- uh - yeah."  He tries to inch near, constricted by the manicured hold of the girl.  Now that I look at her, she's quite pretty:   her blond hair blending lushly into her sun-kissed skin.

"Hey!  I'm Natalia!  I'm Justin's girlfriend."  She greets warmly before wrapping her arms around me - an  offensively floral perfume suffocating my nostrils as she nears;  a direct contrast against Justin's minty tone.  I stare directly at him, an unreadable expression subduing his riling internal emotions - his furrowed browns forcing his eyes down as he stares at the floor.

Say something.  Do something.  Do anything.  I silently beg, my thoughts unable to pierce his racing thoughts and bring his gaze back to mine.  It's time to go Eddy, get out of there now.

"Well I just wanted to drop that off, imma get going now.  It was nice to meet you Natalia."  I say whilst pulling out of the hug.  "Nice to see you Justin."  I bark out, heading straight for the door - avoiding his hand as he reaches out, his touch skimming my jeans as I stride out of the room.

My breathing proliferates, each gasp a struggle as I try to organize my zooming thoughts;  each step towards the elevator forged of physical will and simultaneous embarrassment.  I don't know why I'm embarrassed, all I wanted to do was drop his jacket off.  Nothing else.  In fact, I'm glad he's with a girl, at least he won't be hogging my bed.  Yeah.  I'm glad for him.

"Eddy!"  Justin's scream echoes down the hallway, the muffled music of nearby rooms unable to compete against the urgency in his tone.  I freeze, the sound of my name flowing through his lips an ungodly tease - the singular word able to pause the whirlwind of interior thoughts.

I ignore him, his footsteps increasing as I walk into the elevator, pressing the button - the doors slowly closing, narrowing the visual gap, his locks bouncing  as he sprints to the door,

"Eddy wait, I want to talk to you!"  He screams again, the door closing in his face - the pent up breath in my throat releasing as I exhale deeply.  I inhale in;  pause; and re-compose myself as I descend down towards the bottom floor.

Just forget about him Eddy;  your girlfriend's waiting for you at your dorm, just go there.  That's where you want to go.

The doors slide open, an empty lobby greeting me - the cold flowing breeze sweeping against my exposed arms sending a chill down my spine.  My eyes bulge as the stairway door to the side bursts open, Justin sprinting out of the door, pausing in front of me - hunched over and out of breath.

"Justin, what are you doing?  Did you just run all the way down the stairs?"

"Well I would've caught the elevator, but someone closed it before I got there."  He says between dispersed breaths - the silence from his bedroom obliterated;  replaced with his familiarly alluring charm.

"Oh."  I squeeze out, instantly regretting my response - unable to express my suppressed glee.  "Well um, sorry I interrupted your night, but I'm going to see my girlfriend now so don't worry about m-"  Justin pulls me into a hug, my attempt at escaping foiled as I sink into his tight embrace - his familiar grip melting away the walls of anger I've built up since this morning.

"No; don't leave."  His slurred speech floats past my ears;  his short command enough to entice me into submission.  "I really don't want you to leave."  A smear of red lipstick catches my eye, shattering the illusion - the stain obviously belonging to the aforementioned blonde.  My hands trace up over his abs to his pecs, the subtle push forming a minute gap between us.

"You don't want me to leave?"  I question, his puppy dogs nodding persuasively.  "You don't want me to leave you, like you left me this morning?"  I pose the question, shattering his delicate gaze - my words obviously hitting a soft spot.

"Um - well I-"  His stuttered sentence communicate his confused thoughts;  his brain unable to produce an excuse.  "You know what.  I don't know why I left Eddy.  I truly don't know why.  I'm sorry."  He forces out his heartfelt apology, his eyes dropping down towards the ground.  I process it, the genuine tone a contrast against the confidence which he flaunts so well.

"It's okay Justin."  His eyes still fail to reach mine, stuck on the scattered pieces of dirt littering the floor.  I place my finger under his chin, his succulent green eyes staring straight into mine - time stopping;  bowing before us as the fire reignites within his pupils;  his internal cogs raising his familiar smile.

"Do you want to go somewhere with me right now?  It'll be an adventure!"  He blurts out playfully - the suggestion coming from nowhere.

"But what about your girlfriend?"  I ask.  He shrugs, unfazed by the question.

"She's not my girlfriend;  she's just a friend, who happens to be a girl, who I fuck sometimes."  I wince at the end of his sentence for some reason, his eyebrows furrowing as he notices the effects of his words.

"But not tonight;  I don't give a fuck about her tonight."  I smile, reassured by his charming words, my body sinking back into the hug which I forced myself out of - his warm chest welcoming me back in.

"Okay.  I'll come;  but where are we going?"  His giggle responds to my question.

"If I told you, it wouldn't be much of an adventure now would it?"  He pulls out of the hug, slipping his fingers between mine, leading me out to the moonlight lit city.  "Oh;  what about your girlfriend;  aren't you going to see her?"  He asks, the question pausing us in our tracks.  I ponder my answer, Tralee probably being the root of the flurry of notifications flooding my phone in my pocket.

"Nope.  I have nowhere else in the world to be right now."  My answer pleases him, his widening grin flashing as we start our adventure to the anonymous location.

A/N

If I'm being honest, I did not expect the chapter to go this direction - but I'm glad it did;  it's kind of sweet.

What are your guys thoughts about Justin and Eddy?  What do you think they're gonna get up to?  Where do you think they're going?

They've got quite a close friendship for two guys;  I wonder if that's all it is.  Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments, I'd love to read them! :)
