I wake up and reach out to August but only feel a cold, emty space. I look at the alarm clock and it says it's 5:15 A.M. Why is he out of bed?

I get up, wiping snout from my eyes, into the living room but stop in the corner of the hallway because I hear and see August on the phone.

"That's too much right now. Later, you, me, and Jr. can go back home," he says.

I look down. I thought she was moving out. I guess he wants to be closer to his baby.

August's laugh pulls me out of my thoughts, "yeah, I know. But you know I got them moves, don't try and front."

"Yeah? Well, I'm taken now so-" he says, "she sleep, why?"

"Naw, not now. I'll see y'all later. Give Jr. a kiss good night for me," he says and hangs up.

He turns around and sees me.

"How long you been standing there?" he says, putting his phone on the coffee table.

"Why, you said something I wasn't supposed to hear?" I say, folding my arms.

        "It wasn't even like that"

"That's why you had to remind her you had a girl?"

He shakes his head, looking down and then back at me, "at least I told her that. I swear y'all females like to get mad over nothing," he says, walking towards the bedroom, but to get there, he has to pass me. We need to talk first.

"What's happening later?" I ask, standing in his way.

"Tea's bringing August Jr. over," he simply responds.

"Cool, but did y'all have to talk about that now?" I ask out of curiousity.

"She sent me a picture of him and I wanted to say good night to little man. Something wrong with that?" he asks, leaning forward towards me.

I shake my head.

"I was just wondering. It's fine. Come on," I say, leading him back to bed.

I go to sleep with his arm wrapped around me and I wake up to hear my phone ringing. I grab it irritablely.

        "Hello," I say hoarsely.

"Rise and shine, sunshine. You have two hours to be at our rendezvous, not a minute late," and with that she hangs up.

I'm really starting not to like this trick. I grugedly get out of bed and take a nice, hot shower. I get out and throw on some jeans and a longsleeve shirt. It's cold outside.

I walk into the living room and see Tea and August who's holding August Jr taking a picture. I see how proud he looks and smile at them. He sees me and says, "hey bae, they just got here," before continuing to feed little man his bottle.

He really does look like August. It's uncanny.

I walk into the kitchen and pick me up a pop tart and grab my coat from the closet, about to walk out.

"Aye, Aaliyah, where you going?" August asks, standing up.

I look back and realize that Ima have to lie to him to keep it short.

"I'm going to meet Diamond. We're going shopping downtown," I say, grabbing the door knob, "I'll see y'all later," and then I walk out. I get outside and the cold air slaps me in the face. I need to get a car as soon as possible. Hopefully this interview will land me some dollars.
