Chapter 2

The birds were chirping and the skies were clear as I made my way down the footpath towards Lily's home. She didnt live far from me, only down the trail. Twix was trying to chase a butterfly in front of me, I giggled at his silly antics, he turned back at the sound of my giggles and gave me a doggy grin as he continued to chase down the butterfly.

As I passed I saw many kids and teenagers like myself, alot of couples, the males nuzzling their mate's neck. I quickly looked away, I had no experience with boys and all the physical affection made me all nervous and scared. I pondered how my mate was going to be. Was he going to be kind and gentle? And bring me heaps and heaps of chocolate? I grinned thinking of getting chocolate and flowers from my mate. I was snapped out of my thoughts of my chocolate giving mate
as I heard a small whimper.

I abruptly stopped and looked around, I saw a small pup who looked around 5 years old was getting yelled at by another pup. I raced over and Twix seeing my detour, also curiously followed me. "Hey little one, whats wrong?"  I asked in a gentle voice. I hated seeing others in pain and I would do anything possible to help cheer them up. "Oh miss , Logan wont give me my toy train back even though I have asked him so many times" he hiccuped through his tears. I turned to the other pup " Logan could you please give him his toy back? " Logan looked at me stubbornly " I wanna play with it, its mine now!!!" I looked at Logan with gentle eyes  " Now there Logan,why dont you guys share and play with the toy together. You guys would make great friends I think!" I said with a big smile.
I turned around to the other pup "Whats your name little one?" "Jo..Joo..Josh miss" I smiled "Josh my name is Emily Rose nice to meet you. Now do you think you will be okay to share your toy with Logan". He looked up at me with teary eyes " Yeah I suppose ..tha...thats okay." I looked at both boys and said "Introduce yourselves and give each other hug". The little boys said hi to one another and gave a small hug. Josh's face lit up with a smile as he took the train and told Logan how it works. I was about to leave knowing my work here was done when a small tug was felt at the bottom of my shirt. It was Josh with a little shy smile "Miss..oh sorry Emily .
thank you..your very pretty" he said shyly. I grinned and gave him a kiss on his cheek as well as giving Logan one as well and said farewell to them.

I reached Lily's house and knocked. The door opened immediately and I was bombarded with a huge bear hug. "EMILY, its so good to see you!!!" my best friend's hazel eyes shone with glee. Lily was beautiful with her blonde locks,button nose and cute dimples. She was curvy and voluptuous where I was petite and slim.
"Lily you saw me just two days ago silly!" I said laughing.
"Well it feels like its been bloody ages, your always cooped up at home."
" I know" I sighed.
She wrapped a arm around me and giggled "one day your mate will come sweep you off your feet. But that isnt going to happen if your always at home. That poor soul wont be able to find or smell you."
"I am worried about that. I dont even know if my mate is in our pack." I said with disappointment. Lily noticed this and gave my arm a squeeze.
"Em, you will find him soon and he will honestly be the luckiest man ever! And if he hurts you ill kick him where it hurts!"

I laughed at my friend's words as we linked arms towards the lake. The lake was my favourite place, it was beautiful with big palm trees swaying in the wind covering the pristine clear water. Next to the lake was a huge patch of soft grass which overlooked the forest ahead where our pack boundary lies. We had no contact with the pack next to us. They were called Grey Stone pack, I didn't know much about them only that their pack was known for being murderous and their Alpha was horrible. I felt my heart pang with sympathy for the Alpha, surprising myself because I didnt even know his name nor did I understand the reason for my pity.

Lily and I pulled out our picnic blanket and laid it on the ground. Twix sped towards us and found a comfy spot on the blanket and laid down in the sun, his tongue lolling around. We unpacked our breakfast since we were both starving and started talking about my flower garden that I was planning on starting at my house. We were happily enjoying our time in the sun laughing and chatting away when a thunderous growl that shook the trees and caused ripples in the water was heard.
