The look doesn't linger on his face for long. In fact, it immediately disappears the moment he sees me looking.

I face towards him and narrow my eyes at him.

"What was that?" I ask in inculpation.

"What was what?" he pulls an innocent look. It doesn't work on me though.

"Now you're acting like you don't know what I'm talking about. I'm starting to think that you could be.." I pause and let out an inaudible gasp as it all begins to sink in. "You're defective."

His eyes darken for a millisecond before they go back to normal.

"Nice joke, try another one," he says sardonically. Had I missed the look on his face not too long ago, I would have believed it. I am starting to be certain that there is some sort of an error with him. Quickly, I run towards my phone which I previously left on the sofa. He seems to understand what I'm trying to do and races me there. Unfortunately, he's faster than me so he reaches it first and quickly grabs it before I do.

"You're not doing any of that," he spits out.

"You are dangerous!"

He arches a brow mockingly.

"And you aren't? I don't know your entire life story but I do know that you were left behind by your parents when you were like thirteen because you posed some sort of danger to them."

I stiffen at the mention of my biological parents.

"How do you know that? Aren't you supposed to be programmed to act a certain way? I don't know how other Projects are supposed to act but I'm pretty sure they are not supposed to be filled in with their owner's backstory."

He rolls his eyes.

"Actually, only the owners are supposed to decide whether they want their Persons," he says the last word with disgust, "to know about it after they retrieve them. The company isn't supposed to disclose anything."

I furrow my eyebrows.

"Then how do you know this?"

"When you applied for your name, you had to write your backstory."
