The ride seemed to be getting more and more awkward as time went by. Cela seems to almost feel the awkwardness and neighs at the silence. I glance at Elian and he quickly glances at me. He coughs a bit as we continue to head north, passing small groups of different species of fish and sea life, "The Serian Trench is purposefully in a location where it's both easy to get to in terms of location but with a good amount of time to travel. Luckily we have a quick way to get there rather than just swimming." He glances at the school of clownfish that pass us in a rush, the one in the front being the leader and female. They pass as quickly and I notice the silence grow. I sigh and cough. Elian turns to me and I gesture to the school of clownfish.
"You know there are thirty types of clownfish species known to the world right now. So many people think there are only one or maybe two," I begin, "but there is so much more than that." Elian smiles and turns to me with a bit of fascination in his eyes.
"Really? I didn't know that." He smiles softly but I feel like he did. He probably knows about more than thirty but continues to listen anyway.
I nod and continue with the small facts, "Yep. They follow a hierarchy with the most aggressive female being at the top of the chain. And funny thing is that most clownfish are born male but when the top female dies, the dominant male at the top turns himself female and takes over." I lick my lips as Elian pulls back so were are galloping (or swimming?) side by side in our underwater steeds.
"How do you know all these facts about clownfish," he questions with a soft look and small curiosity.
I fight back the smile and turn to look straight ahead, "I give tours at the marine lab. I did most of my volunteer hours that way, it helped growing up at the aquarium we have, and with a marine biologist as a father." I chuckle lightly and point at my head, "There's a bunch of useless sea facts in this noggin." Elian smiles in response and I feel the air become less heavy between us.
He nods at the herd of seahorses, "What do you know about those little ones?"
I smile and raise a brow, "Well. . ."
And that's how we spend the rest of our journey, Elian pointing out something new every time and me giving him all the measly facts I know about them. Regardless of what happens and what has happened, I hope I don't lose him. I may not be able to have him the way I want to, but at least I can have him in my life. Sadly, I've become attached to this future king and I can't imagine just forgetting about him.
After what felt like a couple of minutes. Elian stops abruptly and I stop talking to look ahead. There is a stone archway that seems punches away from breaking apart. I nod toward it, "This it?"
Elian nods, still looking at the archway, "Let's see if we find what we need here." He pulls ahead as Cela follows her mate carrying Elain. The moment we pass the archway I see everything and nothing. Crumbles of stone are scattered, structures that seemed to be there cease to exist now. The rubble is scattered and causes the area to seem all but abandoned. I shiver slightly as I feel the water temperature drop slightly but noticeably.
