The EMT's wheel the baby and I into the hospital entrance and into a room in the maternity ward with a female nurse guiding us; inside the room she takes the baby from me to weigh, measure and clean him off and re-swaddle him with a new diaper and hat too as a doctor examines me as Luke enters with a still sleeping Tyler, who him lies on the recliner chair and lies the chair back with a bright happy smile.
"You're in time sir, I've just finished with the baby," the nurse informs us as she hands me a clean, diapered and swaddled baby as the doctor finishes; explaining that I was fine as well.
Cradling my youngest son in my arms against my chest, cooing softly at him as the nurse says; "Baby boy weighs 9 pounds, 3 ounces and is 23 inches long and all I need to know is what his name is?"
Starring down at him as does Luke, who is sitting next to us on the hospital bed; "I think he looks like a Tristan, what do you think?"
Luke runs a gentle finger over the baby's chubby pink cheek; "Yeah, Tristan Patrick Carmichael."
"How about Tristan Patrick-Riley Carmichael; after me and the two bikers who helped?" I ask him hopefully.
"Sounds perfect to me baby; welcome to the world, Tristan Patrick-Riley Carmichael," he whispers kissing our son on the cheek.
"That's a beautiful name for a beautiful baby," nurse Caren comments before exiting the room.
Handing Tristan to Luke, he instantly kisses him again on the forehead this time as he whispers fondly to me while taking in our son's features; "We did good baby; we have two beautiful sons."
"We sure did," I whisper with tears lightly flowing down my cheeks at the sight in front of me as my eyes drop in exhaustion.
"Sleep baby, I'll watch after all three of my boys; forever and always and I love you," Luke whispers the last part as I drift off to sleep with a bright smile.
Riley's P.O.V.
4 days after Tristan's birth –
"Hey Memphis," Black Jack says entering my living room as I open the door for him.
Julia and I are hanging out in our living room together, while a movie after a long week at work and today is only Thursday; meaning we have one more work day to go before we can enjoy the weekend.
"What's up Black Jack?" I ask dropping onto the couch next to Julia again; wrapping an arm around her shoulders to pull her closer.
He pulls out what looks like a folded piece of paper that looks like a newspaper clipping; unfolding it before holding it up for me to take without a word. Taking it from him silently, curiosity coursing through my body as I read the article, my heart drops at the words:
'Mr. Liam Quinn and Mr. Luke Carmichael announce the birth of their son, Tristan Patrick-Riley Carmichael on September 29, 2019 at 2:57 p.m. The baby was born on the side of the road, delivered by the father, Mr. Carmichael along with the help of motorcyclist. Papa and baby are healthy; and big brother Tyler is happy too. – The Casper Times.'
Glancing at Julia first to see her crying softly at the birth announcement and I'm positive I know the thoughts that are running through her mind; that should be our baby. Turning back to Black Jack, who looks almost as crushed as Julia and me.
"I can't believe he had a baby and it says 'Big Brother Tyler'; he has two boys and I wonder if the older boy is the boyfriends' kid?" Black Jack says chocking up.
"We've really lost him haven't we, Riley?" Julia murmurs tears misting her beautiful eyes; my heart completely shattering now.
"We need to move on now; as he has but we should send both children gifts but we need to find out how old the oldest one is. Where did you get this clipping?" I ask my friend.
