Chapter 13

I don't remember much, just a ringing in my ears and glimpses of broken glass. My vision faded in and out, my head pounding as I tried to lift it enough to see Todoroki beside me.

I could only make out his blurry hair in the chaotic scene around me. My vision faded black just as I saw flashing lights.

Shoto's POV

I woke up to a loud siren, what happened? Last I remember I put on my seatbelt and fell asleep. I could hear muffled voices slowly fading in and before I could see anything but fuzzy shapes I started trying to say "Katsuki" and figure out where he was.

That was all I could clearly think about "where's Kat?!" Finally, my vision faded in and I could see what looked like the inside of an ambulance. There was a guy next to me who must have been the EMT.

I waited for my hearing to come back more, it was still a little fuzzy.

"Sir, do you know who you are?" He looked at me with an unreadable expression.

I decided it would be better to cooperate for now. "I'm Shoto Todoroki," I said, as clearly as I could manage.

The EMT look at me and said "hello Todoroki, I'm Scott. Do you know what happened?"

"I was asleep in the car and I woke up here."

"Ok, do you remember who was in the car with you?" Shouldn't he be telling me about my condition? Or Kat's?

"Katsuki Bakugo and a random driver my dad hired."

"Good, so you don't have a concussion. Your foot is in terrible shape, though. You've lost nearly half of it." Scott looks nervous telling me this.

"How's Katsuki?" I could care less about myself.

Scott looks a little caught off guard but says "I don't know, he was in a different ambulance."

Scott tends to various equipment for a few minutes until we get to the hospital.

The sirens are turned off and the doors are swung open. I'm rushed through the hospital straight into a room and doctors and nurses soon surround me.

I can't feel my foot and they start messing with my head and asking me questions.

"Can you see this?"

"Follow my finger without moving your head."

"Can you hear me alright?"

The lights were blinding and the whole place smelled awful. I hate hand sanitizer.

They took me into another room for x-rays and then brought me back. Saying I needed amputation and that they were going to put me under. They said my father had already given permission and I wouldn't feel anything.

I didn't even get a chance to ask or say anything before they put a mask over my face and told me to count to 10. I got to 5 before my world went black.

Bakugo's POV

I woke up in a hospital bed. I could barely hear beeping and I tried to lift my hand to feel what was wrapped around my head but I had no feeling in any of my limbs yet.

I had no clue how long I'd been out or where Sho was. I took a guess and figured bandages were wrapped around my head.

Soon a nurse walked in and looked surprised "you're awake? About time." I can barely hear her but I manage to read her lips.

I try to do anything but can only manage to open my mouth.

The nurse gets the hint "you can't move or speak, can you?" I once again have to read her lips.

I try to talk again and don't hear anything but I feel my throat vibrate. I think I said what I was thinking "can't hear."

She looks empathetic and walks more towards me, raising her voice a little so I can kind of hear her "the doctors said you might lose your hearing in at least one ear, but you would still be able to hear around 50% in the other ear." I don't need to read her lips this time, but I feel my anxiety start to build.

I can't hear unless someone's yelling? At least now my parents will have a good reason to yell though, I joke to myself.

"That boy's been asking about you." That snaps me right out of my head.

"He has?" this time I'm sure I'm talking, it's weird not being able to hear myself though.

"Yes, Shoto Todoroki?"

"S-sho?"

"Would you like to see him?"

"Yes please." So he's ok? That's amazing!

Bet he's glad I told him to put his seatbelt on.

The nurse leaves and comes back around ten minutes later with Sho in a wheelchair?

I got enough feeling back to be able to move and I sit up when she wheels him next to my bed.

He reaches out and grabs my hand, the nurse probably told him I couldn't hear much.

Does he still love me?

"Sho?"

"Hey Kat" he smiles at me for the first time in what feels like forever and I smile back.

"You ok?" He looks a little caught off guard, probably because I'm the one who just woke up and I'm worried about him.

"Yeah Kat, I'm ok. Are you? Stace said you can't really hear anything." He's right, but somehow the fact that I can see and still kind of hear him makes it all ok.

"I can't, but I can read lips and talk I think." We both laugh and he leans in. I think he was trying to hug me but instead, I kiss him. Slow and passionate. I think about how I almost lost him and tears start streaming down my face.

Shoto's POV

I'm so glad he didn't just want a hug, that proves that even after all this he still loves me. I'll tell him they had to amputate from my knee down later. For now, we just melt into each other.

Hand in hand, lips locked together, both of us crying, we both know this isn't over but at least it's all ok for now. He may not be able to hear me very well, but at least I can still hold him.

Both POV

At least he's still here for me to love.
