Damon's POV

We all make it back to Bonnie's house after a while and Bonnie heads up to tell Kali good night. Running back downstairs, she says "She's gone." We all look at her, shocked. "What do you mean she's gone? I thought she wasn't leaving until tomorrow?" Jeremy asked. "I don't know. Matt, you brought her home, did she say anything?" Bonnie asked. "She needed to go, Bonnie." he tells her and looks down at his feet. "What are you not telling us, Donovan?" I sneer through gritted teeth. I don't know why I am so bothered and Elena speaks up "What does it matter? She was leaving tomorrow anyway?" I look at her shocked that she would even say that. Pulling away from her, I asked Bonnie. "What's in your hand?" She looks at it and then back at me and reads the letter that Kali left. I walk outside to get some air. We had all exchanged numbers so I called her phone. "You've reached Kali. Leave a message and I'll call you back." was the voicemail that I received. Deciding to leave a message, at the beep, "Kali, it's Damon. Call me when you get this please. At least let me know you are okay." I say before ending the call. "Why do you care if she's okay?" I hear Matt behind me. "She's Bon Bon's bestie. That's why." I say sarcastically. "Right. So the entire time she was here, you couldn't take your eyes off of her because she was Bonnie's best friend? Sure." Matt says. "There something you aren't telling me Matty Boy?" I asked him, suspiciously. "When I brought her back here, I asked her why she was leaving. She said that she felt a connection with someone but knew that nothing would ever happen. That's why she left. She wanted to be here but didn't think that she deserved to be here." he tells me and I look at him, shocked. "We have to find her." I say under my breath. "What about Elena?" Matt asked. "What about her?" I asked as I got up and called her phone again.

Kali's POV

Waking up in the hotel room, I check my phone and it's 8am. I see there are 32 phone calls from Bonnie, Jeremy, Matt, Damon, Caroline and Stefan. 85 texts from all of them. I start looking at the messages and deleting each one.

Bonnie: Please call me and let me know you are okay.

Jeremy: Call me please. I just want to check on you.

Stefan: Please let one of us know you are still alive. Please.

Matt: Call or text me please. I won't tell anyone where you are just please let me know you are okay.

Caroline: This is your other sister. Call me or text me asap. Don't make me try to find you because I will.

Damon: Where are you? Please let me know you are okay. Please? Come home. We need you here. I need you here.

Looking at the texts, I see all of them and they warm my heart but seeing the one from Damon, broke my heart. I started crying all over again. I called and paid for a few more days in the room and sent one to everyone but Damon. I sent his separate.

Everyone: I am safe. I won't tell you where I am but I am safe. I'll check in soon.

Damon: I am safe. You have everything you need. Take care and have a nice life.

It broke my heart more sending the one to Damon. He has a girlfriend. There is no reason for us to have any contact. But at the same time, I can't help but imagine what it would be like to be laying in his arms, feeling his lips on mine, hearing him tell me he loves me. Love. That will never happen to me. I might as well face it, I think to myself before the tears start to fall harder.

Two days have passed and I have the car packed back up and am about to get back on the road. I turn my phone on and see more messages pop up.

Bonnie: Please text me. It has been two days. Where are you?

Matt: Just wanting to check on you. Be safe.

Stefan: You know we are about to get a search party going to find you. Let us know you are okay.

Damon: Had a nice little chat with Matty Boy. Come home please. We need to talk.

I respond back to Bonnie and Matt.

Bonnie, Matt: Headed back out on the road. Will check in when I can. Let everyone know I am alive. Love you.

Damon's POV

"What is going on with you? You have checked your phone every five minutes since Kali left." Elena asked me with her arms crossed over her chest. "Jealous?" I asked her with a smirk. "Yeah actually. You paid more attention to her in the little time she was here than you did me. And now that she's gone? You barely look at me for looking at that stupid phone waiting on a text that won't come. I'm your girlfriend. I am the one that you should be concerned with. Not someone you barely know." she rants. "You know what? You're right. I thought that this could work with us but I think we need to take a break. It seemed like anytime that Kali and I tried to speak, you were right on top of us pulling me away. And before she got here, my heart told me that I loved you. But since she showed up, I feel this connection to her and I can't explain it. So until I figure out what that means? We need to take a break. Not everything is about you, Elena." I snap at her and she runs out with tears in her eyes. "You really feel that way, Damon?" Bonnie asked me. "Yeah Bon. I do." I tell her. "Good because I think I found her." Bonnie says and I can't help but smile.

Kali's POV

I finally make it to yet another hotel in Savannah, GA and pay for a week. I need to figure things out a little more. I can't keep running around. I decide that I am just going to rest and get out my laptop to research some places.

It is my second day in Savannah and I am sitting outside at the pool, relaxing when a shadow comes over me. Opening my eyes, I see Bonnie standing there with a smile on her face. "Bonnie, what are you doing here?" I asked as I stand to hug her. "We took a vote and decided you were coming back to Mystic Falls to stay. We came to collect you." she says smiling. "We?" I asked and turn to see Damon standing behind her. "Damon?" I asked, confused. Damon looks at me and smiles softly and says "Surprise." I smile back and Bonnie notices. "Let's get your things and head back." Bonnie says. "I have to turn my rental car in, too." I say and Damon says "Good, you get shotgun."

An hour later, we are on the road back to Mystic Falls. I am looking out the window, not saying anything, Bonnie is in the back seat sleeping and Damon is driving. "Why did you really leave?" Damon asked out of the blue. "Damon." I say and he cuts me off. "It's just you and me. Why did you really leave?" he asked again. "I didn't feel right staying." I said and he glanced at me. "Why not?" he asked. Sighing and figuring I might as well come clean, I say, "Well, just the little time I spent with you, I felt something but it didn't feel right staying when you have a girlfriend. Especially when she makes it a point to keep us from talking and even telling me you were taken to not get too close." I blurt out. He looks at me shocked and then says "Well, good thing we aren't together anymore then huh? Looks like we can get to know each other." I look at him shocked and like he could read my mind he says "Look, I feel something too. There is something here and whatever it is seems to come easier with you than with her. That tells me that maybe I am not in love with her like I thought. Just give this a chance. Let us get to know each other and see what happens. Okay?" he asked and I smile softly and say "Okay." He smiles and reaches across and intertwines his hand with mine.
