Patton was super excited when he received his notebook. When he had received it though he was confused. He thought that you could only have one soulmate, but the notebook was yellow, purple, navy blue, green, and red. He asked his mom about it and she said, "Oh! Pattoncake, you can have more than one soulmate, but it's rare to have anymore than two. So, you are incredibly unique like I've told you every day of your life, sweety."

Patton didn't waste anytime grabbing his favorite pen, which wrote in his favorite color as well. He decided to write to them. "Hi, I'm Patton! I can't believe that I have five soulmates! I can't wait to read what you guys write!" He has written in it every single day since that day.

As Patton grew up, he realized that only four other colored pens were ever in his notebook. He wanted to know who the fifth person was, but they never wrote anything. He couldn't figure out why the fifth person refused to talk to them. He wondered if they just didn't want anything to do with him. He loved all the others though. They made him the happiest ever. He couldn't wait to meet them all, even the one who never communicated.

He finally met one of them once he started school. He was homeschooled until his third year. He begged his parents to let him attend public school and they finally allowed him to. He met the cutest and smartest boy in the school. The boy showed him around and talked about tons of smart people things. They found out during recess that they were soulmates and ever since the two were inseparable. Their parents did what they could so the boys could grow up together.

When Patton started high school, he was super excited. All these years, and the only soulmate he had met was Logan, who's favorite color was navy blue. When he met Janus today though, he got the same feeling from him as he did when he met Logan. When the half snake boy left, Patton walked with Logan to their math class. Logan and Patton always had math together because Patton struggled with numbers and such.

"Hey, Logan, I want to go to my locker and get my notebook. Will you come with me?" Patton informed and pleaded with his signature puppy eyes look. Logan chuckled and nodded. Patton couldn't go no longer than thirty minutes without checking to see what their other soulmates had written in it.

Patton wasn't checking it for that though. He was checking the back where Logan's and his names were located. When he flipped it over, he squealed in his soulmate's ear. Logan gave him the 'really?' look. Patton shoved it in Logan's face. "Look, Logan! Janus is our soulmate! I wonder if he knows yet," Patton rambled excitedly as Logan dragged him to math class. When they entered, Patton was shocked to see Janus in the back of the class. He was looking intensely at something on the desk. He glanced up and Patton made eye contact with him.

Janus quickly looked back down and put a well-worn book in his bag. Patton knew that Logan usually liked sitting up front, but he wanted to sit with Janus. "Logan, should we sit with Janus, or would that be too much for him? He seems like he is trying to keep his distance from everybody," Patton observed. Logan looked to the back of the class. He really didn't want to sit with the person that made his Patton cry.

"Why don't we talk to him after class, Patton? That way you won't be distracted during class," Logan suggested. Patton decided that he had a point. If they were to sit back there today, he would be more concerned about getting to know Janus than learning math. The class seemed to last for days, even though it was only an hour. Once the bell rang Patton jumped up and practically ran to the back of the class.

"Hey, Janus! What is your next class?" Patton asked cheerfully. Janus gave him an uninterested look before responding a little harshly.

"That is none of your concern, Patton. It's the last class of the day, and then you won't have to see me again," Janus stood up and brushed past the shocked Patton. Janus went to the closest bathroom and locked himself in a stall. He slid down the wall and cried out of frustration. What would his father do when he realized that he had met two of his soulmates in one day?

"Logan, something's wrong," Patton stated.

"Look, Patton, he may just be having a rough day. He'll come around; you'll see. He'll fall for you faster than you can say cookie," Logan comforted as he escorted Patton to his English class. Patton watched as Logan headed off to his astronomy class across the school.

Patton just couldn't focus on class today. He was so curious and worried about Janus. What if he just didn't want any soulmates? Patton really wanted to know why both times he tried to get the snake to open up, he had lashed out at him. There had to be a reason. Patton would try to talk to him again tomorrow. He would get to know Janus because he wouldn't give up on any of his soulmates. Even if that soulmate was acting like a real jerk.

The end of school bell rang, and Patton went straight to his locker. When he got there, he saw Janus putting things in the one next to it. Patton skipped over to him and casually opened his locker to put away his things and grab his homework. Janus glanced over at him and couldn't help but want to apologize for earlier.

"Hey, Patton. I would like to apologize for my behavior today. It's been a rough first day," Janus apologized, rubbing the snake side of his face subconsciously.

"It's all right, Janus. All is forgiven," Patton stated, "Would you like to walk with Logan and me? I'm sorry if I was pushing you to open up to me."

"You're sorry? I was an absolute jerk today. You just wanted to be my friend," Janus muttered. Patton finally took a good look at his beautiful face. He saw tear streaks on both sides of his face and couldn't help to blurt out his question.

"Have you been crying, Janus?" Patton asked, reaching out to wipe them away. Janus quickly closed his locker and stepped out of reach. Patton lowered his hand, and Janus refused to look up.

"*No*, I *haven't* been crying, Patton. *It's just my allergies.* I really should be going, *my parents will be worried if I'm late*, " Janus lied before rushing down the hall and out of the building.
