Chapter 13 - Patton

Patton Logan Roman Virgil Remus Janus

Patton tried to not worry about Janus, but he couldn't help thinking that if they would have made him join them, he wouldn't be unconscious. Every time that Roman texted him, Janus was doing the same as he was the hour before. Patton was wondering if Janus would wake up. Roman said that he was pretty beat up, and his mom didn't know how long it would take for the boy to wake up.

Patton was also worried about Remus. Remus was the one to find him in that state after all. Patton decided to get out his notebook and write to the others to maybe keep his mind off the negative outcomes.

Patton - Hey guys, I'm really worried about Janus. Shouldn't he be awake by now? Logan, what do you think, you're clearly the smartest among us?

Logan - Patton, I know that you are worried about Janus. We're all worried for him, but considering how bad he was injured, I think it may be normal for him to still be resting. The longer he rests, the more his body can heal.

Roman - Hey, Janus might be waking up soon! My mom just came in and said that it could be another hour.

Virgil - So, he's going to be ok? Do you think that they'll find whoever thought it was a good idea to beat one of the members of the strongest creatures on earth?

Remus - Why don't you guys stop pretending to care?! Y'all didn't seem to want to be around him much before this happened! Roman blamed him for Virgil falling to the floor. Then we all caused him to have a panic attack! I know who did this but none of you believe me!

Roman - Remus, we've always cared about Janus! He's our soulmate too! It's not our fault that he is so mistrusting and closed off. I think maybe his heart is as cold as his blood!

Remus - If you wouldn't push him, Roman, maybe he would let you in. Remember he said that he would come to us on his terms. We don't know what goes on at home or in his personal life. I do know that he is trying to protect us from something or someone.

Virgil - Remus is right, Roman, Janus is simply trying to protect us. He clearly thinks that the best way for that is to keep at a distance.

Janus - Guys, I'm fine. Roman, my blood may be cold, but I have a warm heart. Patton, you don't need to worry about me because I've been through worse. Virgil, I'm going to be fine and no, they won't find who did this to me. Logan, thank you for keeping the others calm by telling them it was normal for me to be resting. Remus, darling, the others aren't pretending to care. Roman is right, I shouldn't cut myself off from my soulmates. Darling, you are also right about me protecting you guys, and you know exactly who y'all need protecting from. Remus, I would like to see you first. Please, darling.

Remus - Janus, dearie, you're awake!

Virgil - Janus, honey, you're alive!

Patton - Janus, what is your favorite kind of cookie?

Logan - Janus, shouldn't you be resting still?

Roman - Janus, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it. Remus and I just got into an argument and I said something I shouldn't have.

Janus - Oh! You guys didn't know that I was awake? Kidding, I already knew that you didn't know. Remus, yes, I'm awake. Virgil, I'm clearly alive. Patton, my favorite cookies are chocolate chip. Logan, I'm still in resting, but I wanted to talk to you guys. Roman, I know that you didn't mean your words, but they still hurt to read. I *don't* forgive you.

Remus - Janus, I would love to come see you, buy my parents won't let me anywhere near your room right now. Something about me having most of the demon half of the hybrid. Where is Roman?

Roman - I was eating and now I'm heading to the medical room, Remus. I'm sure that Janus wouldn't try... Remus, I need your help. I know that you're not supposed to be around Janus, but he's in the floor halfway to the kitchen. He must have tried coming up to your room once you told him that you weren't allowed to see him right now.

Remus - I'm on my way, Roman. I better not get in trouble for helping you get him back to the medical room and back into bed.

Patton was ecstatic to read that Janus was awake now. He couldn't wait to go visit him after school. He didn't even want to go to school, but he knew if he didn't then Logan would be coming to make him go. Logan was a good friend like that. Patton was surprised that Janus wrote in the notebook. Janus had said before that he wouldn't write in it again, but here he was writing in it. Patton wondered if he could get the mystery soulmate to answer at least that one question.

Patton was right about Logan coming to make sure that he was at least attending school. "Patton, if you come to school, then you can collect Janus's assignments. Then he won't fall behind in school," Logan tried to persuade Patton to go, even though all the bubbly boy wanted to do was go see their injured soulmate.

"Do you promise that you'll walk me over to the Graves house, so that I can visit Janus after school?" Patton questioned with puppy dog eyes.

"I wouldn't have suggested getting his assignments if we weren't going to go visit our soulmate, Patton," Logan sighed, rolling his eyes playfully.

The school day lasted for years to Patton. He had gone to each of Janus's classes to get the assignments that he needed. While the two soulmates were collecting assignments, they discovered that Janus wasn't turning in most of his homework at all. Logan decided after visiting the third teacher to have a talk with Janus about the importance of completing his work and turning it in by the deadline. The two finally collected all the assignments, so they met up with Virgil and started the walk to the Graves residence.
