Chapter 9
An Old Frenemy (Mason's Chapter)
“Come on Mason! We only have a few minutes before the bell goes.” Thomas Erikson encouraged, while Mason was trying to finish the last bit of Economics work.
“Almost done Tom just one last thing.” Mason responded and as he wrote the last word for his paper the bell ran. “Perfect.” He smiled while Thomas was still rushing his conclusion on his paper. Mason placed the paper on Mr. Phillip’s desk with everyone else in the class still scribbling away. Mason favorite subject so far was Economics at the moment maybe it was because he already seemed to be the best out of everyone in the class at it or maybe it’s because it is the only class where none of his former best friends are in with him.
Instead of going to the canteen, ordering his lunch and hanging out with Miles Hampshire, Christian Joseph and Christian’s girlfriend Eliza Captain. Mason decided to skip lunch, head to the library with his AP Psychology books and study. He didn’t want to be in a big crowd at the canteen he has already had enough of being around people this week. Even going down to the kitchen to eat breakfast is a chore now that Chelsea and Dan have moved in. It has only been two days and Mason already can’t stand either of them. Today Mason had to walk quietly pass them while they were eating their breakfast so he wouldn’t have to join the wedding planning.
Far out they only just got engage and they have planned their entire wedding down to the last napkin Mason thought to himself as he managed to sneak passed them without getting noticed. Likely last night Mason managed to avoid the family dinner by needing to catch up on the work he missed out on yesterday.
He hasn’t seen Nate yet today. Maybe he is avoiding him. Mason thought but later knew it wasn’t true when he saw Nate entering the library, halfway through the lunch period, and marched towards Mason.
“Why are you in the library? Do you have to be anymore of a dork?” Nate mocked grabbing a chair.
“What do you want Nate?” Mason rolled his eyes wanting to get straight to the point.
“You of course. I want to confuse my love for you.” Nate joked but in his most serious tone. Mason closed and packed up his books.
“If you are going to be a dick, don’t bother talking to me.” Mason insulted, realizing how different Nate is acting like a cool jokers today unlike the scared kid from yesterday he saw.
“Sorry, Jesus touchy.” He apologized. “Anyway we are going to met up afterschool at the Grill.” He instructed and started to walk off.
“What?” Mason stated. “Stop!” He hissed at Nate causing him to come to a halt. The librarian gave a cursing look at Mason but he just ignored the death stare.
“Oh sorry.” Nate said in a fake innocent voice. “So we are going to met up with Bryon today.” He spilled out almost in a cheeky way he use to always do.
“I don’t want to do this. I won’t go.” Mason stated in a clear tone for Nate. Nate nodded and responded.
“I know. But I am going to tell him. I think it is the right thing to do.”
“The right thing. Since when are you moral.” Mason snickered.
“Not the right thing. I meant the smart thing.” He snapped back and started to walk out the door. “I don’t care if you come or not, I just wanted to run it by you. That is the right thing to do.” He walked confidently off out the library. It was that moment that Mason realized that it wasn’t Nate avoiding Mason all day but it was Mason avoiding Nate all day.
