It was a looooooong day for Akutagawa. He got caught up late at work for the third time this week. He was exhausted, and all he wanted was to get home and go the fuck to sleep.
Atsushi hated when he got home late, and would insist on cuddles the moment he walked through the door. But Atsushi wasn't a night owl, and as much as he tried, he would fall asleep before Akutagawa got home. He was adorable.
It was almost midnight, and Akutagawa had finally made his way to his and Atsushi's apartment. As soon as he stepped out of the car, his legs almost gave out beneath him. But he caught himself, and made his way up to the second floor. There was no elevator in this complex, which was awful for Akutagawa, especially now. Taking the stairs was a nightmare, not just because he was tired, but because they were LOUD. Every time it was late, and he just wanted to get upstairs, he was worried about getting a noise complaint.
After what seemed like forever, he reached his apartment door, and weakly pushed it open.
The room was dimly lit, no Atsushi in sight so far, and everything looked cleaner than usual. Akutagawa smiled, loving Atsushi's habit of cleaning when he was bored. He loved everything about Atsushi, and as bad as he was with talking about feelings, Atsushi knew Akutagawa loved him more than anything.
He shut the door behind him, locked it, set his things down in the counter, and noticed how bright it was in the bedroom.
"Ryuuuuu..." Atsushi's voice whined from the bed. Akutagawa rolled his eyes with a smile, and approached his boyfriend and his room. He leaned in the doorframe, admiring the adorable sight.
Atsushi had so many pillows surrounding him, and the comforter was pulled over his nose and mouth, so only the top of his head was showing. He really was something else. Even though he was covered, Akutagawa could see he was smiling. Weakly smiling at that. His eyelids were seconds away from shutting, but he was so desperate to see his lover that he didn't care how tired he was.
"Hi," Atsushi rasped playfully. Akutagawa walked to his side and placed a gentle kiss on his forehead.
"Hey," he said back. He ruffled up Atsushi's already messed up hair, and walked over to the bathroom to change into comfortable clothes.
"Don't take too long... you always take foreveerrrr," Atsushi slurred again. Akutagawa stifled a laugh.
"I won't, I promise." he said as he shut the door, and sluggishly threw on shorts and a tank top, and took care of everything else on his nightly routine.
He figured Atsushi was going to be out cold by the time he opened the door, but he was surprised to see him still struggling. He kept jolting awake every few seconds, keeping on the same smile, he face now uncovered.
"You don't have to stay awake, you know. I really don't mind." he whispered, starting to slide in next to Atsushi. His lover turned over and snuggled into his side.
"I know. But I wanna see you. I love you."
They had been together for around two years now, but every time Atsushi said he loved him, his heart fluttered uncontrollably. Just the way he said it was absolutely adorable.
Akutagawa started threading his fingers through Atsushi's tangled hair. "I love you too, Atsushi. Sorry I keep coming home so late. I really don't want to, so I'll be sure to work really hard next week. I just want to spend time with you."
Atsushi began to purr. He had small cat-like tendencies because of his ability. This happened when he was happy and relaxed at the same time. Another small thing about Atsushi that Akutagawa couldn't get enough of.
"I wanna spend time with you too, Ryuu. But don't overwork yourself. I know you're tired. Go to sleep." he murmured as he shut his eyes and slowed his breathing.
Akutagawa held him closer, feeling the constant purring against his chest. Before he allowed himself to drift off, he kissed Atsushi's forehead again, more tenderly this time, and settled down next to the love of his life, focusing on nothing but the feeling of another loving human being lying with him. He couldn't be more grateful.
