As Draco woke, he was astutely aware of every muscle in his body. He moaned involuntarily as he tried to sit up, opening his eyes to reveal a bright room... And Harry. Why was Harry here... Oh no.

"Harry, what-" he tried but his voice came out as a croak. He remembered... He remembered it in pieces. The dark presence in his house from the first week of summer, the legilimency, the torture, the screams, the constant death. And the finding out, the escape. And Harry. The broken bits of memories came together, a jagged mirror, some pieces missing, some that didn't fit quite right.

Harry saw his eyes widen, heard his breathing speed up. "Draco," he said, drawing his attention back to him. "you're okay now. You're safe."

"How?" Draco stuttered.

"I got you. I brought you here, to my Godfather's house." Harry gazed at Draco, drinking in the steel grey eyes he wasn't sure he would ever see again.

"Thank you." Draco's answer was soft, quiet.

...

The next few days were jumbled, a mess of lilting awkwardness and reassurance, of quietness and soft voices. Draco found it strange being looked after by his former teacher and Werewolf, a wanted prisoner, and Harry Potter himself. But it worked. Harry barely left his side, Remus and Sirius, as they had instructed him to call them, filling his stomach with a strange warmth as they cooked breakfast, made tea, and checked on him and Harry. He could feel the pity there as well, could see it in their worried glances and hear it in their hushed voices. He found he didn't mind too much, maybe because of the warmth they had created.

...

As the beginning of the new school year drew closer, they formed a plan. Together.
