TWO WEEKS PRIOR.
Sophie Grayson
I slide on my old, worn out sneakers and grab my handbag, ready to go to my boring old record store job.
I've been working at this record store for the past two years, since I was 17, and I genuinely am fed up with it. My manager sucks so much and the pay is so fucking bad. For the past few months I've been trying to get a transfer to another record store but let's just say, it's extremely difficult with this stubborn bitch of a boss.
I close the door to my old, crusty apartment and cross the hall into the elevator, going down to the ground floor.
I leave the apartment complex and finally start making my way to my shitty job, just like everyday.
A vicious cycle and a boring routine.
I quickly throw my thick, brunette hair into a loose ponytail to keep it out of my face during my walk. This is probably the worst part of every morning.
I check the time on my phone and see that it reads 9:17 AM.
Okay, I've got 13 minutes to get to work.
The walk goes pretty fast as I plug my headphones in and listen to random music that comes on shuffle.
I walk up to the door of the vintage looking store as I look at a poster in the window.
Its of the four boys I have grown to very much dislike.
They're in some type of band. I think they go by the name of Midnights Kiss which is the most basic sounding band title possible.
I don't even know what genre they are, all I know is that they're imbeciles who constantly get into shit with the cops and constantly are posted as being, basically the worst type of people possible.
They're famous because they're hot and have a few good songs. But as people, they seem like they suck ass.
I roll my eyes and scoff, before walking into the store and sending a small smile to my manager.
"Goodmorning, Mel." I greet as I give a small wave, walking behind the counter.
"Yep, morning." She looks up at me for a split second and immediately goes into the back, employee room.
Like I said before. She sucks.
I throw my handbag into a cubby under the counter and open a drawer, to take out my name tag and pin it into my plain black t-shirt.
I put my phone and headphones into my bag and mentally prepare myself to start this boring, long shift.
My six hour shift goes slower than I would have liked it to go as the store was pretty empty today and I was not allowed a lunch break or break at all period.
I'll say it again. My boss sucks.
"Sophie." I hear Mels, deep voice call to me from the employee room.
"Coming!" I respond as I walk into the dark, run down room.
"I got great news for you." She states in a monotone voice as she types away on her desktop.
"Yeah?" I lean against the doorway and intertwine my hands together, resting them on my hip.
"You're getting your transfer, hun." She shoots me a small, forced grin and I immediately stand up straight with a real and vibrant one.
"Really?!" I exclaim and she nods her head. "Oh my god, thank you so much." I put my hands on my cheeks as my smile is just too big right now.
"They're interviewing you next Monday, so get your shit together."
Okay, today is Thursday so that's only a few days away. This is the best news I've gotten in awhile.
I shoot her another smile and go back out to the front of the store where the counter and register is. I lean down to my cubby and take out my phone to check the time to see it reads 3:29 PM.
I grin at the fact I basically finish work now and yell out a goodbye to Mel, taking off my name tag.
I collect all my belongings and leave the store, plugging my headphones in and pressing shuffle.
"She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes, hard liquor mixed with a bit of intellect.."
Midnights Kiss blares through my headphones and I shake my head with a smile.
Like I said, they got a few good songs. And Kiwi is definitely one of them.
I finally make it back to my apartment and throw my shit on the floor before flopping down on the couch and turning on the TV.
Immediately a gossip channel is the first thing to come up on the screen and I sigh.
All they talk about is stuck up, annoying celebrities and what they do with their life. Please. There is so much more important things going on in the world then what Kim Kardashian ate for dinner last night.
Don't get me wrong. I love Kim, she's awesome. But why can't they talk about real things. It's ridiculous.
"Famous members of the boyband, Midnights Kiss, were spotted in Cleveland of Ohio, getting up to no good as per usual." The blonde lady on the TV bubbles out as I sit up in shock.
That's where I live.
I listen in closer as images of the four boys pop up on the screen.
"Harry, Niall, Louis and Liam seemed extremely intoxicated seen by these paparazzi flicks and are seen stumbling around the streets being extremely disruptive to the people who live nearby." She continues as I stare at the images flashing on the screen.
They're very close to where I live.
Way too close for my liking.
I grab the remote and shut off the TV, rolling my eyes.
They're close but I didn't hear them last night which means they aren't too, too close and that's all I care about.
My phone buzzes and I pick it up to see a message from my bestfriend.
Lauren: LMAO sis what's the bet that would happen when im out of state. if u meet niall horan, let him know I want him
I chuckle and instantly know she was watching the same program as me on the TV.
Me: Yeah yeah. I'm avoiding that area at all costs thank u very much. btw I got my job transfer <3
Lauren and I catch up for awhile, messaging back and forth until the sun finally sets and it's time for me to go to bed and prepare myself for my last day at my least favourite record store in the area.
Let's hope I don't bump into any unwanted boys.
