Chapter 4

It took a couple of days for you to get accustomed to asakusa and working at company 7. Townspeople also eventually opened up to you and started to welcome you as one of their own. Many of the women wanted to be like you because you were strong, fierce, and beautiful; meanwhile, the men wanted you. By the end of the month, you had marriage offers from almost every bachelor in asakusa. Everyone except Beni and konro. Your relationship with konro eventually opened up and you saw him as an older brother, but Beni on the other hand was still as distant as the first day you met him. We were both content with coexisting, but you would always catch myself thinking about him and what you did to make him not like me.

You were getting ready to go to bed, when you saw light flashing from the backyard. It was Beni doing some late night training since there hasn't been any infernal spotting within the last couple of days. As you were standing by the sliding door watching Beni, you could see his toned muscular arms outlined by his white T-shirt. He didn't have his kimono on and just wore a white T-shirt and the company vest. You couldnt take your eyes off of a sweaty beni. He finally notices your presence at the door and sees you staring at him.

"Shouldn't you be going to bed? You have a morning shift tomorrow" he says as he approaches you and stands in front of you.

You become really flustered and your cheeks become red. " i was just about to head to bed, but i saw lights flashing so i thought I'd check it out" you avoid making eye contact.

He's so close. Why am I so nervous? Is it because he's sweaty? What am i doing!? I shouldn't be nervous, it's just beni.

Beni reaches his arm around you. AHHHH. WHAT IS HE DOING. He grabs his kimono that just so happens to be right behind you. You didn't even notice it as you were coming into the backyard.

"I was just training since i couldn't sleep..." Beni responds as he's getting ready to put his kimono back on.

"Oh. makes sense since it's been a while since we've encountered an infernal. I should probably do that as well. it's been awhile since i've trained." which was true. Ever since you joined company 7, you haven't been taking mercenary missions so you only used your powers when there were infernals in asakusa. You were craving to fight.

"...well if you need to train, i might as well help you out..." beni decides to take off his kimono again. This catches you off guard.

"You don't have to! you're already done with training, you should slee-.." before you could even finish your sentence, Beni strikes you with his first form.

You're thrown backwards. I swear to god beni, it's on. You quickly get back onto your feet and run towards beni. Within seconds, you're striking him with your flame katanas and shurikens, but he deflects the majority of my attacks. It's been a while since you've found beni, but you were sure that you were going to beat him today no matter what. Beni kept trying to strike feint attacks, but your defense was far better than the last time you found him. As he's about to attack an opening, I use a sixth form: whirlpool to create a whirlpool of flame and land a hard blow on beni. He was able to deflect some of the damage, but not all of it. From the corner of your eye, you can see beni grinning as he is whipping some blood from the corner of his mouth. You couldn't help but smile because this was definitely a fight that was worth staying up for. Before he could catch himself up, I struck him vertically with an 8th form, which caught him off guard and made him trip onto his back. In an instant, you're sitting on top of beni with your katana to his throat.

"Seems to me that you've lost beni" as you smile and extinguish your katana into the air. You could see in Beni's face that he didn't expect that you'd have a blade to his neck, but he was smirking.

"You only won because I was tired from my training before-" Suddenly konro comes out into the backyard.

"What are you two doing?" You and beni then realize that you were still on top of beni, which could be misinterpreted. You both get very flustered and try to explain to konro that it wasn't what it looked like. Before we could explain konro had already left and told us to finish up whatever we were doing. I couldn't help but see that Beni was blushing once Konro had said that. The thought of beni blushing made you blush so you quickly dismissed yourself and wished him goodnight. As you finally reach your room, you couldn't help but remember seeing his smirk.

Why am I thinking about him? What is this feeling?

It's been a couple of months now since you've joined company 7. You had gotten used to the japanese traditional culture as well as the protonationlist ways of asakusa. As everyone accepted you into the district, you eventually got the nickname as the Maiden of the dawn because you always brought a ray of light that would light up throughout asakusa like the rising sun. Things between you and beni were better after the fight since you had gained his respect as a soldier. It became a daily thing for us to train together after hours and you looked forward to it every day.

It was your day off and beni was on shift this morning. Konro was also on shift, but because of his injury, he spent the majority of the time making sure things were orderly at HQ. You were in the kitchen cooking up some okayu (rice porridge/congee) for everyone when you suddenly hear Beni shouting as he came back to HQ after his _____.

"Daifuku from the old biddy. Anyone who wants one, help yourself." You couldn't help, but smile because you knew exactly which old granny Beni was talking about. From the distance, you could hear Hika and Hina parroting Beni.

"I love that die-hard old hag's daifuku! An old lady who can't make daifuku would be better off dead! Heheh"

Just as you were finishing up cooking, you bump into konro on your way to greet beni, hika, and hina.

Beni sighs as he hears hikage and hinata call the biddy an old hag. "Hinata, hikage.... now , look.." Before Beni could finish his sentence, hina and hika were quick to interject. "What is it, waka? We aren't listening to any complaints" Beni always had a soft spot for them.

You and konro smile at each other as we greet Beni back from his patrol around asakusa.

"They're just parroting you, waka." konro says as he stands next to beni as you, hika, and hina go through the bag of daifuku to get a piece. Ever since you came to asakusa, daifuku became one of your favorite sweets, especially the ones from the old granny down the street. Beni was quick to respond to konro like usual.

"i'm not listening to any complaints."

You couldn't help but smile. Konro knew Beni better than anyone.

"See? Right there that's where hina and hika are learning from. Konro does have a point beni" you say right before you take a bite into the daifuku. So good and sweet.

As you were enjoying the daifuku, you continue to hear hina and hika parroting beni. "These daifuku are delicious! The last flimmer of a die-hard old biddy. Hehe. The light of a dying old hag is tasty!" The fact that these children know such aggressive language always shocked you.

"Hina. hika. It's not okay to use that kind of language. The old granny deserves some respect especially since she gave us such delicious daifuku. Don't listen to the things Beni says." you say as you glare at beni.

"I never said anything like that" Beni responds with his usual gloomy facial expression as he's standing next to konro. You chuckle with the twins as you continue to eat your daifuku.

Konro then remembers something. "By the way, waka, we just got word from the folks at the 8th. They say they want to search our jurisdiction over that evangelist matter" Your ears peak up as you hear that the 8th wants to come to asakusa. You knew beni would never agree to it and just as you were about to comment beni had already responded.

"Too much trouble. Ignore them"

Just as Beni was done responding, your attention turns towards the noren at the front door. You suddenly see a group of people wearing fire force gear coming in. Just as you were about to get up from sitting, you see a boy with the devilish smile, the same boy from months ago. Something about this devil boy made your head hurt slightly as your eyes met with his.

Who is this boy and why do I feel a connection to him.
