Chapter 6

After Beni finally calmed down, everyone gathered around the living room as you tended to Konro's wounds. You didn't realize how bad his burns were since you always saw konro bandaged up, but it was far more severe than you had imagined. Since you met beni and konro after they established company 7, you never really found out how konro injured himself since it would've been very invasive on his privacy so you avoided asking despite being curious. Once you finish treating konro's wounds and bandaging him up again, I slowly lay konro down onto his futon so that he can rest. Everyone, including company 8 and Beni, sat around him as he slowly regains some energy from laying down. As you take a seat next to Beni, you had to slap his arm in order to stop him from glaring at Obi. You were angry at beni for causing so much trouble for not only Konro, but also company 8. As the room echoed with silence, konro eventually speaks up.

"What were you all doing when waka saw what he thinks he saw?" You knew konro shouldn't be talking, but we needed to get to the bottom of what exactly happened. Lientent hinawa was quick to respond.

"Captain obi and I were buying some items we were short on at the town general store. We also told maki that's where we were going." Maki nods to back up hinawa's claims. Shinra on the other hand showed a sign of confusion as he heard hinawa explain his side of the story. "Huh? But the captain told me to go and get captain shinmon and that he'd be waiting in the back alley"

Beni seemed to have agreed with shinra as he nodded. "i heard as much, and that's when i headed toward you." Obi on the other hand was quick to refute beni and shinra's claim, which angered beni. "are you trying to fool your own men!? I'm going to go ask around at the general store. For konro's sake, i'm going to excuse this for the moment. Dont leave here until i say youre in the clear '' You couldn't help but let out a loud sigh as beni slams the door on his way out. Konro and you knew how stubborn beni was, but this was company 8's first time seeing the strongest fire officer like this.

"Honestly, waka is such a stubborn boy. After all this time, he's still the same." The room stayed silent after konro started to speak. Shinra couldn't help but ask.

"Lieutenant Konro, would you tell us what happened to your body?" All eyes land on konro, even your own since you were curious about the incident as well. Konro couldn't help but sigh before he began to speak.

"It's all because I wasn't strong enough. It happened before we formally joined the special fire force. It was the solar year 196 when a large burst of infernals invaded asakusa all in one night. Since there was no special fire force in asakusa, beni and i had to handle all the infernals ourselves. We had to protect the people no matter at what cost. Beni and I were reaching our breaking point when suddenly a demon infernal with a horn showed up. No matter what we did, we couldn't put it to rest. In order to protect Beni and asakusa, I had pushed myself to my limit in order to save everyone. Luckily I was able to make it out with my life, but I faced severe injuries from burning myself out. Up until today, Beni can't help to think that my injuries are because of him, but it was my own choice to sacrifice myself so Beni can protect asakusa." Everyone, including yourself, couldn't help but feel bad that Konro had to suffer such immense pain in order to take down the demon infernal. As the room remained silent, konro tried to lighten up the tension in the room.

"I dont regret what I did. I wanted to keep beni and asakusa safe and I just wish that beni would stop feeling guilty for what happened years ago. I want him to have confidence in himself to lead company 7 and become the best fire soldier there is. If it means supporting waka, ill offer my two-bit life as many times as i need to. " You immediately assist Konro as he struggles trying to get up. You never realized what konro and beni went through prior to creating company 7 so you couldn't help but feel a sense of regret for making their lives harder by taking you in. Somehow shinra was also feeling a wave of emotions after hearing Konro's story.
