Chapter 10

~Lilith~

I was passing by, so I thought I would pay the Vampire Palace “Darnell”, secret to all but vampires, a visit, for I had not seen the 9th Vampire Lord for a considerable amount of time.

When I entered the palace grounds, immediately the loyal vampire soldiers were in front of me. “You are not a vampire! How do you know about this place?!” they would say every time.

“I am a friend of the Vampire Lord’s.” I tell them, and wonder if he is still the Lord, or if he has already chosen a successor.

This seems to intrigue the vampires, but they are suspicious creatures by nature. They refuse to let me into the palace, no matter how I try to convince them.

“I will not be long.” I tell them. “I just wish to see the Lord. I will then take my leave.”

It was then that one of the vampire children ran up to me. “Can you help the Royal Family? Please help the royal family!”

One of the soldiers moves forward to grab the child, but I snatch her up. She does not attempt to escape my hold and I hold her at eye level.

“What is wrong with the Royal Family?” I ask. “Are they alright?”

Tears spring to the little vampire girl’s eyes. “They are not alright! We have not seen the Lord for so long, the Royal Family is unhappy and does not show us their smiles any longer!”

I look to the faces of the soldiers, and they all hold the same expression of worry and longing to help.

“I can help the Lord.” I tell them, and place the girl down. They stare at me with disbelieving eyes before they decide that if I am in fact telling the truth, I should be allowed to see the Lord.

So I follow them through the palace and up to the top floor, where the Royal Family is supposed to be.

Then my ears pick up the heartbeat of a cursed heart. I wonder which of them in the Royal Family is cursed, but once the doors to the chamber are opened and I see the rest of the Royal Family sitting there, I can only presume that it is the Lord himself who is cursed.

The Royal Family stands when the door is opened, and the Lord’s wife recognizes me. A smile breaks out onto her face when I step into the room, and she urges the soldiers and guards to leave us.

When they exit the room, and the door are once again firmly shut, she speaks up.

“Oh Lilith!” She says as I walk towards her. “It is so good to see you again!”

“It is good to see you as well.” I say to her, and see a slight shiver travel up her spine, as it has been a while since she has heard my voice.

“There are two people I would like you to meet.” She tells me, and from behind her dress, a little boy and girl emerge.

They poke their heads out cautiously at first, but when they lay eyes on me, they both approach with a dazed look in their eye. They both reach out for my hands, and seeing their eyes flash red, I step away from them.

Their eyes flash once more as they dive for my wrists, but I swiftly step out of the way, causing them to fall to the floor. Their mother runs towards them in embarrassment.

“I apologise for their behaviour.” She says, and knocks them both lightly on their heads. “They probably smelled your blood.”

That seems to snap them out of the blood-lusting-haze, and they both smile at me sheepishly.
