Maybe learning to fight isn't such a Nightmare

Hey guys! Sorry it's been so long since I posted anything particularly interesting. However i am back with a piece I wrote a few weeks ago! However, it is not based on Hermitcraft, this one is based on Dream from the DreamSMP. This story is about Dream and his shadow Nightmare. If you are unfimiliar with the Shadow People AU (SPAU) Then I suggest you go check it out! (It is a mainly Hermitcraft AU which is written and collaborated on by a large group of writers) The original storyline of the SPAU is based off hermitcraft seasons 6 and 7, but recently the SPAU writers have branched out to other MCYT communities such as EVO, and DreamSMP! This wasn't the best explanation so I suggest you go check out these links for the proper info!

Please leave me a comment if you are interested in finding out what shadows are! There may be more SPAU content later on so it would be worth taking a look at even if it's just to find out the basics.

ANYWAY, Onto the fic!

Rich green leaves soften the glare of the sun to a soft golden glow that drapes the clearing, tiny little shimmering particles lazily drift towards the ground, like fireflies on a starry night. Soft, Lush grass speckled with flowers gently rustles, lightly brushed by the wind. Small birds sing, and chirp, dancing around from tree branch to tree branch.

Quietly observing, Nightmare sits in the centre of the clearing, despite his presence, the forest simply carries on, allowing him to enjoy the serene environment. This is Nightmare's favourite place to be, No fights, No sudden loud noises, and No bloodshed, a perfect spot for him to rest. L'manburg is a nice place to live, but it simply doesn't compete with the peace that the forest possesses. A little brown bird swoops down from its perch and gracefully lands nearby the shadow. It happily flits about, looking at different flowers, and keeping an eye out for bugs to catch for an early afternoon snack.

*Crack*

The noise of a twig breaking spooks the bird, and Nightmare sadly watches as it hastily flaps its wings and flies up to a high branch of a nearby tree. Nightmare pushes it to the back of his mind, labelling the noise as normal. He doesn't question it, and shifts his attention to a bee, buzzing around in a large patch of daisies speckled throughout the grass under the shade of a small tree.

"OH NIGHTMARE~ WHERE ARE YOU?"

A loud shout causes the quiet shadow to panic, before Nightmare even begins to figure out who this loud newcomer is, he bolts. Scrambling to his feet, he nimbly scales up the closest tree, as high as he can possibly go without falling, ending up on a very high branch. Trembling he looks down as the sharp sound of breaking twigs grows steadily louder, becoming intertwined with a more frequent and methodical thudding. Only a few moments pass before a young man with a mess of dusty blonde hair, Green hoodie, and smiley face mask emerges from the greenery, and looks around, appearing to be very confused.

It takes Nightmare a few seconds to realise that the cause of his fright was his summoner, Dream. At that moment, the player looks up to see his shadow clinging onto a high branch in a tree for dear life. Dream mentally scolds himself while frowning.

Dangit Dream, you have to remember not to be too loud around Nightmare, you don't want to give him some kind of shadowy heart attack.

The player makes eye contact with his frightened shadow who is still clinging onto the tree, and quietly says;

"Hey Nightlight, I'm really sorry that I gave you a fright, do you think you could come down here so we can talk? I promise to be quiet"

Cautiously Nightmare climbs down a few branches and then jumps from the tree, softly and steadily landing on the grass despite the large drop. Not one for many words, the shadow tilts his head to the side as a silent Whats up? Dream smiles gently at his shadow's timid nature, despite his strengths in fighting and his loud, boisterous, carefree nature, the other had gotten the short end of the stick. It wouldn't be incorrect to say that he pities Nightmare for that misfortune.
