I couldn't really sleep because of the noise happening downstairs, it sounded like arguing, but it's the middle of the night!
"That beast is a threat, Stoick! It can command dragons, fly, and breathe fire!"
"It's unnatural! A human should not have wings, and the beast has brainwashed your son into thinking its friendly!"
"Enough!" I knew that booming voice as my dad's, "She has a name, and Luna is no more a beast than dragons are, Hiccup trusts her and I have faith in my son. He may trust a little too easily at times but it's been months since he met Luna and she hasn't done a thing besides be helpful around the Edge, she even keeps the twins in check sometimes if Hiccups letters are to be believed. If she were bad then don't you think she would've tried to sabotage or harm someone by now?"
I was surprised, especially after Johann's tricks, that my father was saying those things.
"Do you not remember before she had wings? She helped us with our Death Song problem. If you're still worried then I'll ask Hiccup to stay another day and we'll all keep a close eye on the girl," Stoick ended the discussion and the others left, grumbling and obviously dissatisfied but the Chief's word is law.
I heard him start coming up the stairs so I hurried silently back to my room, well as silently as one can with a metal foot, there's no way he didn't hear a couple steps so I had to act. I grabbed a few papers from my desk and headed over to a chest I like to keep notes and failed tails in, I got the chest open just as my dad opened the door, sometimes he forgets to knock.
"Hiccup? You're still awake," he looked around a bit.
"Y-Yeah, I heard arguing downstairs so I couldn't sleep, couldn't make out anything though, did someone's sheep get loose again?" I asked.
"Um, yes, actually," he lied, "Listen, Hiccup, I was wondering if you and your friends could stay another day or two, we could really use the help around here since our dragons haven't come back yet."
"Yeah, sure thing, Dad, no problem," I said, "It's nice to be home again so I'm sure the others won't mind lending a hand too."I asked everyone to the Dragon Training School the next morning so I could tell them what was happening but Luna growled as soon as we got close.
"What's the matter, Luna?" Ruffnut asked from Barf's neck.
"I'm not going in there, that's a killing ground," Luna's wings spread a bit like they do when she doesn't like something..
"No, no, no. It's okay, we remade it into a training arena for new riders," Fishlegs assured, "No killing has happened here since Hiccup found Toothless."
Luna was still tense but she trusts us so she followed, "Alright, we're here, we weren't followed, what's this about?"
I sighed, "The villagers don't quite trust you, Luna, they're afraid of you."
"I got that much from the stink eyes I got yesterday, people fear what they don't understand," Luna responded and took Dewdrop out from under her hair, I didn't even know she brought her.
"So we're staying another day to help out until their dragons return, we can show them that Luna isn't bad. I overheard some arguing last night and they think that she's going to make dragons attack them," I said.
"I mean, she has the capability to do that so I can understand their worry," Astrid shrugged and pet Stormfly.
"You know, that actually gives me an idea to get the dragons all back sooner," Luna said.
"Not the point, I want to show them Luna isn't bad at all," I looked at her, "My dad trusts you because he knows what help you've been back on the Edge, I never told him about your wings so that's why he was shocked yesterday, but we can make the rest of the town at least not fear you anymore. We can show them how helpful you are."
Luna leaned against Ruff as Dewdrop hung onto her face, the little dragon kind of looked like a face ornament around Luna's eye like that. "Alright, I did see some roofs needing fixed as we flew close yesterday, I might be able to help somewhere else too," Luna relaxed and smiled, "Let's go prove them wrong about me."Luna definitely did prove Berk wrong about her, she helped fix up roofs, fences, she found lost sheep and even roared from the tallest point on the island and called all the dragons back sooner, turned out they were on the next island over. Then came the Ingermans. Brant, Brenda, and Shrug all remembered her from the Edge when they were there for Dragon Explorer Camp. Luna seemed happy to see them though.
"Hey, there's the Dragon Explorers! I was wondering when I'd see you," Luna smiled.
"Luna! Hey, you have a tiny dragon on your nose!" Brenda giggled.
"That's true, this is Dewdrop, she's a MossWing baby," Luna landed on the ground then sat on a log and let the kids pet her wings for a bit.
"I remember MossWings! They're so teeny tiny! Fishlegs told us about them when we were at Camp," Brant said.
Luna smiled and wrapped her wings around the kids for a moment, kind of like a hug with her wings, "That so? What do you remember about them?"
My dad walked over to me and placed a hand on my shoulder, "She's been a big help around today, she even pointed out things to be fixed that no one knew about, now no more food will be stolen by little Terrors since we got that hole plugged up."
"Yeah, so now there's no reason for the villagers to be afraid of her, she's kind and helpful and since she knows and understands dragons then she can figure out what's wrong and help the dragons too," I smiled but then there was suddenly a plasma blast shot near my feet, making both me and my dad jump back. I looked up to see Luna was gone and the kids just looked confused so I sighed, "She's a good influence on the twins but they're a bad influence on her."
My dad just couldn't help but laugh a little as he slapped my back, "She's a sneaky one alright," he said then got distracted and looked at his hand.
I noticed a bit of blue on my shoulder then looked at my back the best I could, there was a blue handprint with splatter patterns, "How-?" I sighed, "Right, she also has amazing aim and timing whether with her fire or throwing things," I watched my father peel a little cloth pouch off his hand.
Luna swooped down over our heads, "Tuffnut's idea!" she said as she flew off with a laugh.
"She may be helpful and all but maybe keep her away from the twins if you can," Stoick said then walked off to wash his hand.
"Can't really do that since she's dating one of them," I said with a sigh right before getting water dumped on me so I looked up to see my own girlfriend with a bucket hovering above me.
"Just thought I'd help you get the paint off," she laughed then landed beside me, "Luna roped me into it, I just thought it was funny."
"We've really gotta stop the twins from pulling her into their pranks," I said then saw Ruffnut with purple paint on her, trying to reach Luna who was laughing above her.
