But routines kept Isadora's life going. She clung to them. And if that was what would give her a sense of normalcy, then Kol would take her on that 6 AM walk so she could somehow feel alive. He kept her routine up, even driving her to school on a Saturday morning knowing that Caroline would be there to watch over her.
Despite the events from the night before, Isadora came into the school cafeteria a few minutes late with a cup of iced coffee to keep her awake. She ignored the heavy atmosphere she felt around the school as she's been feeling it since the night before. Given Esther's spell, she thought that it was simply a little left over magic.
"Sister," Rebekah immediately greeted as she came in, giving the girl a sad smile. This also caught Caroline's attention who gave the same smile. "I thought Kol would have wanted you to stay in today."
Isadora shook her head and forced a smile onto her face. "He knew I'd feel better if I kept myself occupied," she explained as she took a sip of her coffee before placing it down onto one of the tables.
"You're late," Rebekah commented in a lighter tone. "Much like your cousin. Cleanup committee started at eight o'clock."
"It's like, 8:02," Caroline responded as she rolled her eyes.
"Calm down, Care," Isadora said as she started to work on the streamers. "Rebekah's luck for school dances hasn't been good. Even one that she's planned. Come to think of it, all school dances seem to be cursed."
Rebekah and Caroline couldn't help but smile sadly at Isadora's statement. There was truth to the nymph's words. Every time there was a celebration to the most mundane events, the supernatural world seemed to just swoop in and decide it was the right time for them to party as well.
"I'm sorry about your mom," Caroline suddenly blurted out. "I mean I know you like, hated her and everything, but still...I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry about your teacher," Rebekah said, her eyes darting from Caroline to Isadora. "I heard from Kol that Isa also tried to exchange her life again for his."
"Yeah," Caroline said, her eyes also darting to Isadora who was now looking down as she held some streamers she recently pulled down. "Pix?"
Isadora gave the two girls a small smile. "I'll be fine," she said. "I couldn't do anything about it. Even I have my limits."
"Well," Rebekah said as she took a deep breath. "I'm gonna get started on the gym." She gave Isadora a nod before walking out into the hallway.
Caroline went to her cousin to take the streamers from her hands. "You sure you'll be fine?" Caroline confirmed. "Tea and vodka at your place after this?"
Isadora giggled, causing Caroline to smile. But their little happy moment was cut short as they heard a crash outside, causing Caroline to speed out of the room with Isadora following closely. To the nymph's shock, the strange atmosphere she felt earlier happened to be from Alaric.
