Goosebumps jutted out of Ellouise's skin from the crisp, cold air in stars hollow. She sat on the steps right outside Luke's diner with her head buried in her hands. A single tear trickled out of her eye which she wiped away immediately as she sighed. she could feel her eyelids drooping like deflated balloons as she tried to stay awake.

Finally caving to the need for sleep, Ellie wrapped her arms around herself and rested her head on the wall beside her and pressed her back against the door. Her eyes closed and she drifted to sleep in the freezing cold.

"Ellouise?" Jess yawned as he looked through the diner door and rubbed his eyes to see the blonde hair clearer. "Ellouise?" he repeated, trying to get her attention. With no response, Jess pulled open the door. Without the support of it, the blonde fell backward onto the tile floor of the diner.

"Ow," she exclaimed as she jerked awake. The first thins she saw when she opened her eyes was Jess staring down at her lying on the floor. "Ah, damn," she sighed to herself.

"What are you doing sleeping in a wedding dress on Luke's doorstep?" the brown-haired boy questioned as he helper her up. The warm air made Ellouise smile lightly.

"First of all, it's not a wedding dress," she groaned as she stood up. "Secondly, I've had the worst day in the history of the universe."

Looking up at the ceiling, Jess bit the inside of his mouth, hoping they hadn't woken Luke. "Oh, my god," El chuckled to herself as she shook her head and rubbed her eyebrows. "I'll get out of your hair," she smiled for a second before turning around and taking a step away.

"No, wait," Jess grabbed her wrist, making her turn around and look at him. He pulled two coats off the hat stand and passed it to her with a smile. "Let's go somewhere," the boy smiled as he shut the door quietly behind him.

The jacket Jess gave her was Luke's and she looked so tiny in such an oversized coat. She wrapped it around herself with a little tuft of her white skirt poking out at the bottom. "So why were you taking a cat nap on the steps?" he asked as he stuffed his hands in his pockets.

A smile formed on her face because of the stupidity of events that had occurred. "First, I'm woken up at 4:30 am by my mother which is always a bad idea because I get all moody and tired and it's a whole thing," she began to explain as they strolled around town. "Then, my parents make this random boy that looks like my sibling be my escort. Then, I fall down the stairs in front of everyone. Then, that prick Tristan I was telling you about, tried to kiss me. And then, my parents tell me that I might get shipped off to boarding school."

"Wow."

Rolling her eyes and sighing, she groaned, "I know, right?"

"Did he kiss you?" Jess asked as they stopped at the bridge and sat down with their feet dangling just above the moonlit lake.

"What?"

"Did he kiss you?" he repeated as he brushed off his jeans.

A smile formed on the girl's face as she held up her bruised knuckle. "I may or may not have punched his stupid chiseled face in front of everyone," she chuckled and hissed as she pressed the bruise with her other hand.

"Remind me to never piss you off," he joked. "I mean isn't a punch a little... I don't know, harsh?" he squinted as he tried to find the right words. "I mean don't get me wrong, you should have done something to stop him but a punch? It's just a kiss."

Ellouise giggled to herself as she picked at her nails and flopped back to lie on the bridge. "I guess. But I want my first kiss to be with someone that's not an ass," she shrugged.
