Alexander's POV

I was finally finished a morning full of meetings, all of which ended with someone congratulating me on finding my mate. I didn't know what to do so I just nodded silently. Since everyone was out of the ballroom before I left no one knew that I hadn't accepted my mate. I need to come up with some way to stop this from spreading. Why not just tell people she isn't my mate or that I haven't and won't accept her you ask?

The only thing stopping me from doing this is my wolf. The only thing that would make me weaker than having a mate would be rejecting one. My weakness wouldn't be worrying about a mate it would be my wolf. Rejection can be extremely painful for a wolf and can in turn weaken it. If people found out I rejected Cassia they would know I was weakened and may try to attack or kill me. That couldn't happen. For now this state of being yet not being mates would have to do.

Breaking me from my thoughts was a knocking on my office door.

"Training starts in 10 Alex" Aaron said flatly leaning on the door frame.

"Right. I'll meet you at the training field in 5"

Aaron turned to leave without saying anymore. Great so he was mad at me too. Navigating this whole mate this was going to involve a lot more than just Cassia.

I grab the training gear and clothes I keep in my office and quickly change before making my way out of the castle.

The training field is located on the north side the territory. There is a path that leads through the forest by the north side of the castle and opens into a huge flat field. This allows for everyone to spread out and also be able to train in wolf form without getting in each other's way.

All wolves receive basic training as part of their schooling requirements in high school. Once they complete their basic training in school any wolf over the age of eighteen can choose to continue training if they want. Not all of those who train want to be warriors. Any pack warriors complete extra training in the morning.

Right now the open training session was starting. I missed the warrior training that I usually attend in the morning so I decided to go to the open training today. It would also give me a chance to oversee the training of the rest of my pack.

"How are they looking?" I say as I approach Aaron.

"Good. Eric has been doing a good job with them"

I looked over the field to see Eric working with a pair of wolves in human form. As I continue to scan the training field my eyes land on a familiar head of light brown hair. Instead of the having it all pulled back like this morning she opted to only pull part of it back. I couldn't help but watch how her hair moved with her as she dodged punches and threw some herself.

"She's improved quite a lot since she left" Aaron said looking over at Cassia as well.

"I've seen better" I reply

"I thought you too came here to train" Eric yelled from across the field

A few people turned to look at who he was talking to and my eyes met a pair of blue eyes. Her face was emotionless once she realized I was standing there. Before I could take in her face any longer she turned back to her partner.

"Come on let's find an open space" I said walking towards the field.

For the rest of training Aaron and I work through all the training exercises. Even when everyone else switches partners we stick together. For one most people are terrified to even try to fight an Alpha or Beta, and second I don't trust anyone else to take the punches I'm throwing today. Needless to say I've needed to get rid of some stress.
