Cassia's POV

I was staring into the pitch black eyes of my mate for only a second before he turned to Derek.

Lili, my mom and Queen Sarah quickly grabbed me and pulled me away from a shaking Alex. I stared at the scene in front of me in both shock and horror.

Alex had picked up Derek by the collar of his shirt and said to him.

"Keep your hands off my mate!"

Everyone in the ballroom gasped and looked to me. Before things could go any further Alex was tackled to the ground by Eric, Aaron, and my dad.

Judging by his black eyes I assumed Alex's wolf had taken over. Plus there was no way Alex on his own would have just proclaimed to a ballroom full of pack members that I was his mate. Everyone was being ushered out of the ballroom and before I knew it the only ones left were mine and Alex's family.

The women took me over to one of the tables and sat me down. We were all silent for a moment, for different reasons I'm sure.

"Is it true?" Queen Sarah asked quietly.

I looked around at everyone before glancing over where Alex was still struggling under the men. I turned back to the others.

"Yes" I said quietly looking down at my hands in my lap.

"No need to be sad darling. This is a happy occasion! My son has finally found his mate and I couldn't be happier that it's you" Queen Sarah said grasping my hands in hers.

"I am so happy for you sweetheart." My mother said hugging me.

I smiled up at both of them and then looked over at Lili who was giving me a look that told me she saw right through my smile. I knew we would be having a conversation about it later.

"LET ME GO" Alex roared from the middle of the ballroom.

Before anyone could stop him he broke free from the holds of Eric, Aaron, my dad, and King Benjamin. Alex's eyes were going back and forth between pitch black and his usual brown eyes, signaling that he was fighting for control. He took a few steps towards me before suddenly stopping and turning his back to me.

He quickly looked over his shoulder straight into my eyes before shifting into his pitch black wolf and ran out the open doors into the garden that we had been in not too long ago.

I couldn't look at anyone. My mate just ran away from me, a clear sign among our kind of not accepting your mate. Although this didn't mean he had rejected me, he needs to actually say those words to make it official, but it was basically the unofficial way of doing it.

The room was dead silent.

"Well I think we have all had a long night. Cass why don't I walk you up to your room?" Lili said.

I just simply nodded my head and let Lili lead me out of the doors of the ballroom. We walked in silence up the stairs of the castle towards the wing where my room was located. Once we reached my room Lili opened the door and I walked towards my bed. As soon as the door closed I let it all out and cried like I never had before.

I had waited all my life to meet my mate and now I wished it had never happened.

I opened my eyes when I heard my alarm go off. To be honest I don't think I ever actually fell asleep last night.

After I was able to stop crying for a while I explained to Lili everything that happened in the garden last night. I don't know how long we sat there. The last thing I remember was being wrapped in Lili's arms while I continued to cry some more. Once I fell asleep she must have left.
