"Is she okay?" Jade asked as she leaned forward to look at the woman sprawled over the concrete. Cold air was blowing strands of her hair away from her face to reveal her features contorted in worry.
Nathan scoffed as he did the same. "She seems peachy."
She let out a sad laugh. "And the deads keep piling up."
Nathan watched the others look in confusion at their clothes, the others around them as well as the boy laying next to them. "At least they snapped out of it."
Jade nodded with a sigh, she turned to Simon, who was awfully silent as his frantic blue eyes gazed into the void. "Are you okay, Simon?"
He blinked a few times and looked at her, his lower lip trembled as his eyes welled up with tears, but he simply nodded. He looked away from them to hide his tears.
He gulped. "I did it for you. All of you."
Jade painfully smiled, and his eyes widened in shock when she gathered him in her arms and hugged him tightly.
"Thank you." She whispered in his ear.
He bit down on his lower lip as some tears rolled down his cheeks, and he looked up in shock as he felt a hand pat his back.
"Nice job, weird kid." Nathan congratulated him with a straight face, a rare seriousness in his vibrant green eyes. "Didn't know you had it in you."
Simon couldn't find his words. Jade broke the hug to wipe away his tears with the sleeve of her orange jumpsuit.
She took a deep breath and let out a heavy sigh. "Well, at least we know which season is coming now."
Nathan furrowed his brows as he gave her a confused look. "What?"
With a straight face, she pointed at the edge of the roof where the woman was pushed off.
"Fall." Jade said.
Nathan looked at her with his mouth wide open in offence. "That joke is utter garbage."
"At least she was dead serious about this virtue stuff." She kept going with a blank face.
He raised his eyebrows in amusement. "Seriously, stop." He chuckled.
"Come on, you love my killer puns."
Nathan remained silent for a few seconds, then he rolled his eyes. "I mean, it's kind of a grave affair that's just happened."
Jade and Nathan exchanged a smirk when Simon tried to muffle his snickering.
.
.
."Jade!"
She furrowed her brows in confusion when a tall, blond man in his late twenties burst inside the community centre main hall in a panic. His frantic blue eyes gazed at her and he sighed in relief.
"You're okay." Luke exhaled deeply as he massage his tired face with his hands. "Shit, when I caught a glimpse of the body outside I thought it was you."
"I'm okay..." Jade trailed off. "What are you doing here?"
"I just came to check up on you. What the hell happened to this woman?"
"Long story." Jade's eyes remained on him as she studied his face in suspicion. "Why do you need to check up on me? You're my boss."
Luke threw Nathan a pleading look to help him find an excuse, however he soon regretted it when Nathan smirked.
"He has a crush on me, you're just an excuse, love." Nathan drawled, and Luke slapped his forehead.
"Why do I even bother." Luke grumbled.
