Something that was surprising, but far from unwelcome, was how affectionate Nathan was in private.
In public, he acted cocky and flirty around her. He liked to annoy her, and she was no exception as he told her his obnoxious jokes and pushed her around like he did with everyone else.
Some people like Curtis couldn't help but ask her what the hell she was doing with him, and why was she letting him treat her like that.
She just furrowed her brows in answer and told them to "mind their own business".
Because they didn't know that he acted like that because he was scared of being vulnerable, it was a stupid coping mechanism he had developed by himself and was now struggling to get rid of.
However, as soon as they were back home, he transformed into a caring, loving version of himself.
Curtis and the others probably couldn't even fathom that, when Nathan made love to her, he liked holding her hand and calling her by pet names like princess, baby, darling...
"I hope you're thinking about me." His voice broke her out of her thoughts, and her eyes met his, a smug glint in the vibrant green colour.
They were laying in bed in the mess of tangled limbs as Nathan was holding her against his chest. His left hand softly tracing the lines of the tattoo on her shoulder.
She hummed with a smirk as she pretended to be deep in thought. "I was actually thinking about that handsome lad we saw at the grocery store."
A giggle escaped her mouth when he tightened his hold around her with a grunt of annoyance.
"Like that scrawny looking guy could make you scream like you do with me." He grinned smugly. "Nathan, baby! Please don't stop!" He mocked her with a high pitched voice, and a cackle left his mouth when she started to slap his chest with an embarassed glare.
"Shut up, you tosser." She mumbled against his skin, and he chuckled.
He stared at her shoulder with a soft smile as he gently stroked the skin with the tip of his fingers.
"It's beautiful." He said quietly.
She smiled as she shut her eyes in bliss.
"Did you put the cream on it today?"
"I forgot." She mumbled, half asleep.
He sighed as he reached to grab the tube on the nightstand while he tightened his hold around her with his other arm to stabilise her.
"Not only I'm not the one that got the tattoo, but I was under that guy's influence and I still somehow remembered his instructions better than you." He scoffed as he squeezed some cream on his fingers. "I didn't chose the smartest one out of the bunch."
"Not my fault you're obsessed with me." She smirked. "And I'm a free spirit, I don't follow instructions."
"Free spirit." Nathan snorted as he spread the cream over the inked skin. "Jesus, I'm in love with a dork."
"Less talking and more massaging."
He rolled his eyes with a smile as he rubbed her skin, and he planted a kiss on her shoulder.
"Hey, aren't you supposed to start your period soon?" He asked, and he wiggled his eyebrows. "Just so you know, I am a generous man, I aim to please women no matter what. I'm not afraid to get messy."
She shrugged, but then she thought about it seriously, and her eyes slammed open as realisation dawned on her.
"Oh, fuck.".
