"Harvey, wait! What about the gun? The one you had with you at church." I asked.
Harvey's face completely paled whereas Caleb looked confused.
"What gun?" Caleb asked looking at Harvey.
Harvey didn't say anything and just waited for Caleb to put it all together.
Now, I've figured it out too. There was only one gun in the entire story. It was Derrina's and Harvey was supposed to 'take care' of it after everything but apparently he never got rid of the gun and everyone just assumed he did.
Oh god, that means...
"You have the gun. You could've prevented Jake from going to jail." Caleb said just the thing I was going to say.
Now anyone with a brain could figure that out. The question is why would Harvey do that to his bestfriend?
"Caleb, I had a good reason." Harvey tried to defend himself.
"No reason is good enough for this, Harvey." Caleb said feeling betrayed obviously.
"Harvey, I thought you were doing all of this for Jake but you didn't have to do anything when you had the murder weapon with Derrina's prints." I said or asked.
"Just listen to me once." Harvey tried.
"Okay, you have five minutes to explain before I walk out." Caleb said giving one last chance to Harvey.
"Fine, I knew about Derrina being a thief. I didn't know she could go as far as killing someone. I tried digging in information about her but she didn't exist before coming here. I found nothing about her past. I figured out that she was obviously not the person she said she was. I confronted her one night. Turns out, I wasn't the only one trying to find out everything about the other. She knew about my adoption and my younger sister. I told you guys about my younger sister too, I think."
"You did." Caleb said, his eyes even softened for a second.
"Yeah. Well, I loved her more than anything. I didn't exactly get a choice in my adoption. I couldn't be with her after mom and dad got me. I tried my best to find her but I couldn't even find out if she was alive. She was the only real family I ever had. Derrina said she'd give me her file in return of a favour."
"She wanted her favour on that night. She told me on the phone she had messed up pretty bad but I was willing to do anything at that point. I took you guys with me. I really didn't know she meant she had killed someone when she said pretty bad. When I was supposed to get rid of the gun, I kept the it, I don't know for insurance, I guess!?!"
"Derrina was my only hope. She was supposed to give me that file before she got on the plane but I kept waiting and she never came. I wanted to use the gun as leverage so she would give us the tape along with the file."
"That day when I met you at the church, I thought that no matter how hard I tried, she was never coming back and decided to tell the truth to Caleb but I met you. You said to think about 'what's right for you' and all I got out of that was that it's okay to be a little selfish. I know what you meant was probably something different but I heard what I wanted to." Harvey finally finished.
I felt bad for him. Derrina tricked him too. He loved his sister and just wanted to know if she's okay.
Not that it was right in any way to lie to Caleb. I mean, he should've trusted Caleb and maybe he would've helped him with everything.
"Was it so hard to tell us the truth? You just let Jake-" Caleb said.
"You would've said to give up the gun right now and we'll find your sister too. But I know how that would've worked out. Trust me when I say that I tried everything." Harvey said.
"That's still not good enough." Caleb said after a minute of silence.
Caleb walked out towards the backyard patio looking angry and hurt. Harvey started walking towards the door.
Wait...I was the one supposed to walk out angrily. And I still should've done it but I didn't.
I didn't want the boys to fight among themselves. They shouldn't let everything they've worked so hard for, go to waste.
I should convince Harvey to...
"Don't come after me. I don't even deserve that. Caleb needs a friend though." Harvey said reading my mind before walking out and closing the door behind him.
I went out to the backyard patio to find Caleb sitting on one of the stairs despite the comfortable sofas on the back.
I sat down next to him but kept quiet not knowing if he would want to talk.
"Don't you hate Harvey and me by now?" He asked.
"I don't know." I replied honestly.
"Caleb..." I started.
"You need to understand that Harvey did what he did because he loves his sister." He completed for me.
"Right. I know it doesn't justify that he lied to you but do this one for Jake." I said trying to convince Caleb.
"You're right. Jake doesn't deserve this." Caleb agreed.
"What about Ethan?" He asked.
"What about him?" I asked confused.
"You know he really loves you." Caleb paused.
Does he though? I mean you don't cheat on someone you love.
"So does Harvey."
Now even I know that's not true. That's what he must have assumed. I'm pretty sure Harvey never said that.
"And so do I."
Caleb loves me!? That is something I wasn't expecting. I mean...how is this...Caleb loves me? I had no idea.
"C-Caleb, I love you too but..." I stuttered.
"I don't mean it the way you mean it and I'm sorry but I'm in love Harvey? I know. I wasn't expecting anything else." Caleb completed.
"I don't love..." I tried to say but he cut me off again.
"You do. I know. Everybody knows. You just haven't realised it yet." He said, hurt flashing through his eyes.
"And he does too. I have seen it in his eyes."
"So you're gonna bring Harvey out of his misery now?" I asked trying to change the topic.
"You can call him." He said to me obviously not wanting to talk to him just yet. It's normal to not talk to someone who just betrayed you for a while unlike my stupid ass.
I tried calling Harvey from Caleb's phone, mine was in my clutch which is in Harvey's car. His phone was switched off.
"His phone's off, it's battery might be dead or something." I said.
"We should find him? I had to go through the plan- never mind. Let's find him." Caleb said.
