Chapter 18

Y/N's POV

I didn't really pay attention to how long the flight was because I was knocked out the whole time. I was so overcome with relief that I could finally relax for a bit so my body just gave out and slept. I was only woken up to Bucky telling me we were close. We finally landed in this open field. I walked up to the front of the jet and saw where we were.

"Welcome to the new compound guys." Steve said, taking off his seat belt.

"Why are we here?" I asked.

"Well, I just think we need a bit of a breather. Tony and everyone else is at the Tower, so I figured we could all stay here." He said. He opened up the door to the jet and everyone started to walk out. Once I hit the open air, I realized this is the new life I have to get used to. I turned around and saw Bucky putting back on his seat belt.

"Wait, where are you guys going?" I asked.

"Uh...Bucky and I have to deal with something." Steve told me.

"Oh, okay then I'm coming." I said simply, walking back onto the jet.

"Uh, I don't think-"

"Y/N I have to fix something." Bucky said, looking up at me.

"Okay then I'll help you." I told him.

"Please just-"

"No. I'm going with you. I'm not losing you again. Just when we finally came back to each other? No, You're gonna have to try a lot harder than that." I said. Bucky and Steve exchanged looks and then Steve shut the door. I sat down in the back of the jet and put my seat belt on. Steve then reluctantly sat down in the front seat and we were off again. The trip was long but I didn't want to ask too many details because judging on how they were acting about me coming along, they didn't want me to know what was happening. Steve then accelerated the plane and we were going vertical.

"Steve? Where are we-" I started asking, then everything around us just seemingly transformed and the ride got very smooth. I looked around and everything was so advanced, it was beautiful. Steve landed the jet and we all undid our seat belts. Steve led the way and Bucky swung his arm around me for support.

"Where are we?" I asked as we left the jet.

"You are in Wakanda." Someone told me. I looked to my left and saw this woman holding a spear. I was so confused right now. I looked forward and saw Steve greeting someone. Once he moved to the side, I could see who it was. T'Challa.

"Welcome to Wakanda." He said. "I am very sorry about the situation in Vienna. It was a convincing case of mistaken identity. I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me." He said to us.

"Thank you..." I told him. Bucky took his arm off me and shook his hand.

"If you don't mind me asking...why are we here?" I asked.

"Come with me. I will bring you to our lab." He told us. I walked with Bucky inside this incredible building and we walked into the lap. Two men took bucky off of me and led him to a table. A woman came over to me and held my hands that still had on those gloves that Wanda gave me.

"Do you mind if I take these off?" She asked me.

"Uh...yeah that's fine." I said. The whole time she unwrapped my hands, I kept my eyes on Bucky, who was laying on a table, staring at the ceiling. The lady then brought me to a table and laid me down.

STEVES POV

As Y/N and Bucky both got some tests run on them, I stood with T'Challa.

"They'll be just fine." T'Challa said to me.

"I know.." I said. Just then, His sister Shuri walked over to me.

"Mister Rogers, may I speak to you for a moment." She asked. I nodded and she brought me over to where Y/N and Bucky couldn't hear.
"Mister Rogers, I have figured out a way to completely wipe Bucky of his Winter Soldier past. It will take some time, but I can get it done." She said.

"Can you really do that?"

"I can. My brother likes to act like he's smarter than me but he's all muscle." She laughed. "I can also help Y/N. I can help her manage her powers and keep her safe." She added. I took a deep breath and realized that it would probably be the best option for her. A woman came over and handed Shuri a tablet.

"Mister Rogers...do you know how Y/N got her powers?" She asked me.

"No..do you?"

"According to the tests, she was injected with a super soldier serum, like you and Sergeant Barnes, but not the exact serum. It's like HYDRA was experimenting on her, something they've never tried before. Then it seems like she was exposed to some sort of flame because she has a peripheral nerve injury, meaning that she has been exposed to hazardous flames...it's like she's made of it. She has a steady temperature of 130 degrees. To her, it's been normal. A typical thermometer wouldn't catch it."

"So what can she do?" I asked.

"Fire manipulation, she has impressive strength, self-healing, there is the presence of telekinesis and pyrokinesis but we can't know for sure until we assist her. If treated right, she can become very powerful."

"And her baby?" I asked.

"Her baby is in perfect health. If it weren't for the serum, there's no possible way she or the child would have survived." she told me. I nodded in response and then walked back over to them. Y/N was standing next to Bucky, who had his arm wrapped up. They were both also in a new change of clothes.

Y/NS POV

"Are you sure about this?" Steve asked Bucky.

"Sure about what?" I asked. Bucky sighed and looked at me.

"I can't trust my own mind. So until they find out how to get this stuff out of my head, going under is the best option.....for everybody." He said. I had tears in her eyes as he explained it.

"...For how long?" I asked.

"It should only take a few months." Shuri said.

"Months?" I exclaimed.

"I'm so sorry..." Bucky apologized.

"This is why you didn't want me to come with you..." I asked him.

"I didn't want to hurt you." he said. I took a deep breath and paused.

"If that's what you want to do...." I said with a soft smile.

"It's what I have to do..." Bucky then pulled me in for a kiss, and when we pulled away, I let my tears take over.

"I'll be back before you know it." He told me.

"And I'll be here when you get out." I told him. He looked at Steve and gave him a hug. He hopped off the table and walked over to the chamber. Steve and I stood next to each other as they locked him in.

"He'll be out before the baby is born, right?" I asked Shuri.

"We have to make sure the timing is right." She told me. I lowered my head and cried a little harder.

"I can't do this on my own Steve."

"And you won't. Everyone is here for you and they are going to help you." He told me. I nodded and then we watched Bucky go under. Once he was gone, I immediately turned around and walked away.

STEVES POV

I walked over to where T'Challa was standing, overlooking Wakanda.

"Thank you for this." I said.

"Your friend and my father...they were both victims. If I can help one of them find peace..."

"You know if they find out they're here...they'll come looking." I told him. He looked at me and let out a short laugh.

"Let them try"
