Y/N's POV
"Promise me that this is not a goodbye", I whispered as I hung my head low and let Jungkook button up the back of my dress.
"I promise, Y/N. We will get through this just like we got through everything prior to today", he assured softly.
He carefully turned my head to the side so he was able to reach my lips and quickly connected them to his before returning to help me get dressed.
"Then stop making every touch feel like it might be the last", I whimpered and squinted my eyes.
After Taehyung had left, we realized that reality had caught up to us and got ready for this very eventful night. Jungkook put a simple yet still formal outfit on, consisting of black pants and a fitted dark sweater, while I traditionally wore a slim navy blue dress.
Apparently, dark blue was the color worn to any serious events, such as a court trial or funeral because it represented the night sky and respect for the moon. White and silver were therefore somewhat considered sacred colors, mostly used for accessories.
"I'm sorry", my mate sighed sadly and reached out to my necklace on the counter, to put it back around my neck. The high lace collar of my dress forced me to take it off earlier but there was no way I could make it through the evening without it.
"You look as beautiful as a star in the night sky. I just wish it was under different circumstances", he smiled as he admired me in the mirror, his hands on my shoulders and mouth next to my ear. His warm breath relaxed my tension a bit but I was still stiff.
"I'm scared, Jungkook", I hissed and quickly turned around to let him embrace me. "Shhh. Everything will be okay, my love. Remember what we said? This is still the easy part. Just normal conversations with the guests", he reminded me while stroking my hair.
"Until they're no longer normal conversations and who-knows-what happens at an uncertain time this evening", I pointed out and further buried my head in his chest. "I wish I could just stay here with you, lock ourselves in and pretend nobody else existed..."
"...but there's no more avoiding this now, cub. Now we just have to face it. I will do everything in my power to protect you and I'm not leaving your side for a single second until it's over. Actually, probably not even after that", Jungkook promised.
"Just normal conversations until they're no longer normal. It's not up to us anymore. There's only so much we can control, love". I sighed and eventually nodded before I parted from him to find some reassurance his loving gaze.
He gently cupped my face, caressed my tears away and kissed both of my cheeks. "Please don't cry. Your are too pretty to cry. Smile for me, will you? I don't think I can do this without seeing your beautiful smile one more time"
I sniffled but did as told or rather tried as best as I could, making my mate smile as well and hug me one last time. "I'll give you a few minutes, okay?", Jungkook offered but I quickly shook my head. "You said you wouldn't leave my side tonight. Start now"
He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and nodded acceptingly before I turned around, still having his arms wrapped around me, and tried to fix my makeup a bit. Suddenly, he put his hand over the pendant of my necklace and fixed his eyes on mine in the mirror.
"I gave you this so you would never forget how much I love you. No matter what happens, I want you to remember that. Especially tonight. I love you more than words could describe and always will, Y/N", he emphasized.
"I love you so much that there are no metrics to ever measure it, Jungkook. I don't know how this night will end but there's one thing I'm 100% sure of; meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me", I replied and pulled his hand up to kiss it.
We held on to each other for a few more moments but I could tell by his clouded gaze that it was time for us to get going. "Ready?", he asked. "I could never be ready for this but I'm willing to go through with it anyways, because I have you"
