As weeks progress in their new home, Marlene had finally found a job she enjoys. Ash however has been getting worse. His anger spiraling out of control.
She becomes scared everynight, so she seeks guidance from her new friends Jess and Clara.
Clara: girl you need to leave his ass already
Marlene: I know but I had only just moved here 3 weeks ago! I just got a job as a journalist and it's really hard trying to survive with the amount of money they are starting me off with.
Jess: dude you can move in with us it's no big deal. You already know we have a guest bedroom.
Marlene goes quiet.
Clara: we are telling you dude it's going to get worse. You dont see it but ash is really getting physical with you. And not to mention in a bad way.
Jess: I'm starting to get scared girl, and yeah we know we just became friends but we really love hanging out with you.
Marlene looks at both of them.
She sighs not sure of what to say.
Clara: please girl just, stay over tonight.
Marlene: but what will ash think?
Jess: fuck what he thinks marlene! He doesnt care about you!
Marlene: I care!
Jess and Clara become more worried.
Clara: girl please! Just for tonight!
Marlene: fine!
Jess: great! Now you need to let ash know!
Marlene: I'm scared, what if he gets all mad.
Jess: he wont, just tell him you got caught off working on a project with us and that you are staying the night.
Marlene: alright.
Marlene grabs her phone and dials ash's number. She puts it on speaker so the girls can hear.
He answers.
Ash: hello?
Marlene: babe?
Ash: yeah?
Marlene: me and the girls got caught up on this project and I'm really too tired to go home. Is it okay if I stay the night tonight?
Ash: fine, but your ass better be home early tomorrow.
Marlene: I will babe I promise.
Ash hangs up.
Jess: what a fucking dick.
Clara: well at least you can stay tonight.
Marlene smiles.
Jess: so what yall wanna talk about?
Marlene: I kinda want to talk about this town, I'm new here and I'd like to learn more about this place.
Clara: of course! We got you girl no worries!
Jess: what do you wanna know?
Marlene: this town um, I havent got the name of it.
Jess: oh the name.
Marlene nods.
Clara: its woodgarden.
Marlene: woodgarden? That's a weird name.
Clara: yeah I know.
Marlene: why is this town called woodgarden?
Jess: I dunno, some of the old folk say there was a old lady that would give away foods and stuff to the local people.
Marlene: this town was built around an old lady that gave away food?
Clara: yeah it does sound simple but there is a meaning behind it.
Marlene: such as?
Clara: they said the woman was a witch. They say she tricked the local townsmen by luring them in with cursed foods.
Marlene: what the hell?
Clara: yep, and when they built the town they say that tourists would come into town but were bored to the point that they left. Hence why you can fish, hike and climb mountains for free.
Marlene: interesting. And for the roads?
Jess: what about the roads?
Marlene: they all have something to do with wood.
Jess: oh your wondering why the main roads are called by the word woods?!
Marlene nods.
Marlene: yeah like why is this street called westwood?
Clara: cause we are in the west! Duh!
Jess: oh shut up clara. No that's not why.
Marlene: okay then why?
Jess: there was a family that lived in this town called Westwood. It was their last name.
Marlene: really?
Jess: yep, they were the ones that built this town to begin with. They were claimed to be very very rich.
Marlene: are they still alive?
Jess: of course! They live in the dark mansion 2 houses away from yours.
Marlene: dark house..
Clara: girl what's wrong?
Marlene: 3 weeks ago, the day I first moved here i saw a young man in the window of that house you guys are talking about.
Clara: wait. Are you serious??
Marlene nods.
Marlene: there was a young handsome guy and he was watching me from his window. I waved but he didnt wave back he just closed the curtains.
Jess: no fucking way!
Marlene becomes confused.
Marlene: what?
Clara: that guy you saw at the window. That's one of the Westwood's! They are never seen during the day!
Marlene: what?
Jess: actually they are never seen to come out like ever.
Marlene becomes more confused.
Clara: honestly, I dunno. Its strange.
Marlene: you think?
Clara and jess look at Marlene.
Jess: what did he look like did you see?
Clara: yeah I wanna know!
Marlene: wait, wait, wait. Your both telling me that you guys never saw any of the Westwood's?
Clara: nope.
Jess: not at all.
Marlene: then how do you know about them?
Jess: the old folk that live here in town. They tell stories.
Clara: yep! That's how we know about them!
Marlene: I dunno it just doesnt add up.
Clara and jess go quiet.
Marlene: how does the old folk know about them if you claimed that they never come out? It just.
