A/n this is a one shot I'm thinking of turning into another story later on. 💛
Life was fine for Leon, perfect almost. Ok grades, cute girlfriend, star athlete, bright future. The cards all seemed in his favor, except for one that didn't sit right.
Sayaka Maizono
He liked her, a lot. But he didn't think it was enough to say love. Yes, they were dating, they would hold hands, and they would kiss and all that boring couple shit. And that was the problem. It was boring. It never gave him those butterflies that everyone describes when they fall in love. He never stayed up all night thinking about her. But he did stay up wondering why he felt like this. He never thought much of it when he was younger, but the older he got. The more confused he became and the more worried he would get. Was something wrong with him? He never felt like how he should with any of his girlfriends. There was never that real spark or connection between them. And they were pretty much just glorified friends. At least that's how Leon felt. He knew Sayaka didn't feel that way, and she made sure he knew that. She loved him, he wasn't sure about her. She was practically nuts for him. In fact she was the one who asked him out. Thinking maybe they could be something. Leon accepted. But as time went on he realized, that's not going to happen. And now, once again Leon was stuck with an amazing girlfriend, who he didn't love and now has to find the best way possible to break up with her. It seemed like a vicious cycle of girls to him. Fall in 'love', realize it's not love, and then this happens.
But of course, he did always have his best friend Yasuhiro Hagakure there whenever he needed him. Willing to supply Leon with his wise words and 'psychic predictions'. And of course edibles that Leon only a few times actually had. Hagakure didn't always make sense and sometimes were just flat out off topic, but Leon still listened and some of the things he would say actually helped out a lot. Leon always thought how lucky he was to have a friend like Hagakure. He didn't know what on earth he would do without him when a situation like Sayaka came up.
Leon had already texted Hagakure and a arranged a time for him to come pick Leon up saying he had some issues and needed his advice but would prefer if they did it somewhere private.
Headlights shone through Leon's window telling him Hagakure had arrived, he laced his shoes, grabbed his house key and headed out the door making sure to lock it behind him. It was dusk and the sun was about set for the night. It was also raining slightly. Typical weather for mid April. Hagakure drove an old beat up car that always shook too much when you started it and smelled of chemicals. Leon wasn't a fan of it and neither was Hagakure, he said he only got it because he didn't have the time to keep searching for a better one. Or something like that. The door creaked loudly as Leon opened it, je got it an sat on the old, crusty, worn out passenger seat. He sighed and leaned back. Hagakure chuckled and out the car in reverse.
"Sayaka?" He asked, knowing exactly why his friend had called him. Leon nodded.
"Sayaka."
Hagakure backed out of Leon's driveway and began driving down the wooded road.
"Leon, you're my best friend and I want to help, but how many times am I going to have to tell you the same thing? If you were never sure of her why did you start dating her?"
"I don't know." Leon whined putting his face in his hands. "I thought I would grow to love her. Just like I did with baseball."
Hagakure laughed to himself and shook his head. "Girls and baseball are two completely different ball games Leon."
"I know!" Leon exclaimed. "But I really thought I could like Sayaka. And now I'm probably going to break her heart!" He leaned his head against the window and watched the trees go by.
"The cookies are in the glove compartment." Hagakure mentioned. "If you need any." He gave him a wink and Leon rolled his eyes.
"No thanks, unlike you I don't need drugs to solve my problems." He snorted and Hagakure burst into laughter.
"Of course."
Hagakure pulled into a little gravel road off to the side and continued to their usual hiding spot. A little wooded clearing in the forest that looked like an old campsite. It was cozy, it was private and nobody ever came by there.
"Do you ever think that maybe the problem isn't you, or the girls?" Hagakure asked putting the car in part and pulling the emergency brake. Leon raised an eyebrow.
"Then who the fuck would it be?"
Hagakure shrugged, "Maybe you need to figure it out, maybe it's not even a problem. Maybe you just don't realize something yet." He sounded almost like he knew what was going on.
"What are you getting at?" Leon questioned. "I probably just haven't found the right girl." He crossed his arm.
"Maybe you need to expand your horizon when it comes to new partners." Hagakure suggested. Leon glared at him.
"Is there something you know that I don't?" He was getting really weird vibes from how Hagakure was talking. Hagakure sighed and turned his whole body to face Leon.
"Listen, I care for you and I wouldn't want to say anything that would upset you. But you have been going through the same cycle for years Leon! It's clear you never had any feelings for these girls! And Sayaka is no exception! I am more than happy to help but when are you going to break this cycle?"
Leon stayed silent. A sad look glazed over his icy blue eyes.
"What?" Hagakure asked letting his shoulders drop.
"Maybe I'm just not meant to find love." He sighed putting his elbows on his knees, resting his head in his hands and looking forward into the woods. "It would make sense."
Hagakure rolled his eyes. "Leon, don't say shit like that. You're still young and you probably need a break from girls to figure out what you want." He suggested.
"Bullshit." Leon muttered. Hagakure grabbed Leon's chin and made him face him.
"Leon," he spoke gazing into Leon's eyes. He only said one word, bit his eyes said enough to tell Leon what he was thinking. Hagakure leaned over and slowly, they kissed. Leon returned the kiss, it was slow, it was passionate. And it felt long, long overdue. He and Hagakure always seemed like they had a connection. Leon thought they were just good friends. Ironic, he thought his girlfriends were something, they were just friends. And here he was with who he thought was just his friend, kissing, and it was something. Because Leon finally felt it. That rush that goes straight to your head, the way time slows, and the butterflies everyone talks about. He felt them all at once and he knew. He felt something.
Something, he never felt before...
