The Astronomy Tower

A few days later, the pain in her forearm had stopped. The Dark Mark on Alula's arm was still not visible which was a relief. She just hoped that everything would work out and she would remain undiscovered. She attended her lessons, did her homework and spoke to her friends (minus Harry) as usual. None of them knew or would have suspected her secret.

Alula kept finding herself in moments of silence and it terrified her. It allowed her mind to wander and think that she was capable of horrible things. It was these minutes that she would have spent in Harry's embrace. Alula had made up her mind as she walked over to Ron and Hermione one evening.

"You okay, Al?" Hermione asked, looking up from her Arithmancy book.

"Yeah, do you know where Harry is?"

"Dumbledore's taken him to find a Horcrux," Ron whispered away from prying ears.

"Oh, right," Alula mumbled, knowing what this would mean. "Thanks."

Mind clouded by unwanted thoughts and body wishing for warmth only caused by a certain being, Alula climbed the staircase to the Astronomy Tower to where she now sat staring out at the night. After a while, Alula closed her eyes letting the thoughts pass, trying to calm herself. Concentrating on breathing in and out, in and out.

'What does it mean?' A voice said, snapping Alula from her daze. 'Is it the real Mark? Has someone definitely been - Professor?'

"Harry? Professor Dumbledore?" Alula questioned as she approached them, behind in the sky was an unmistakable symbol.

"Alula, you're okay," Harry said, quickly, looking distressed. "Do you know what happened?"

"No, I- Professor?"

In the dim green glow from the Mark, Alula saw Dumbledore clutching at his chest with his blackened hand.

'Go and wake Severus,' said Dumbledore faintly but clearly. 'Tell him what has happened and bring him to me. Do nothing else, speak to nobody else and do not remove your Cloak. I shall wait here.'

'But -'

'You swore to obey me, Harry. Take Alula - go!'

Harry and Alula hurried over to the door leading to the spiral staircase, but Harry's hand had only just closed upon the iron ring of the door when they heard running footsteps on the other side. They looked around at Dumbledore, who gestured to them to retreat. Harry backed away, taking Alula with him and drawing his wand as he did so.
