to everyone's surprise, the night was going well. I mean, as well as was to be expected for a group as chaotic as this one. david and lui had long since disappeared to make out behind the fairground mini-game booths, bryce was vomiting his guts out while ryan anxiously rubbed his back and muttered apologies for making him go on the fastest ride there, and anthony was cursing out the poor man at the rubber ducky stand. however, there was still an overhanging tension in the group. tyler was ignoring craig to the best of his ability, but he couldn't help but admire how nice he looked tonight. in all honesty he wasn't really sure why he was ignoring him - after all, craig had done nothing wrong - but he felt he had something to prove. he didn't need craig, in fact he was perfectly fine without him.

"hey, do think tyler's mad at me?"
jon, who was holding hands with evan and pointing up at the bright lights of the fairground, turned to see his friend's worried face.
"what makes you say that buddy?"
craig scratched the back of his neck awkwardly and shrugged his shoulders. "he seems like he's avoiding me. I tried talking to him but he sorta just brushed me off and he hasn't replied to any of my messages since... well, since I went over to scott's house."
jon made a sympathetic face and assured craig he was probably just over thinking it - that tyler might just be bogged down with assignments and not ignoring him on purpose - and that things would be back to normal in a few days. craig smiled at this and thanked his friend, resolving to make the most of the night and worry about that in the morning. he shot one last glance at tyler before he turned around and started walking towards brian who was eating popcorn out of one of those tacky plastic containers at a picnic bench.
"does he really not see it?" evan asked as soon as craig was safely out of earshot. jon looked at his boyfriend and laughed quietly. "he's about as oblivious as it gets. he'll figure it out in his own time I'm sure."
with that, he took evan's hand and walked towards where tyler was standing and winked at him, getting a scowl in return.
"whether wildcat has the patience for that is a whole different story altogether."

david and lui had finally returned from their adventures and had somehow convinced marcel and scotty to join them on the ferris wheel. they queued up and watched as the pods of four slowed down as the ride came to an end, and took a step back as the operator opened the small gate. marcel stepped in and sat down, and lui motioned for scotty to follow, but as soon as he did, him and david stepped down from the platform and left the queue. marcel's heart started beating faster and he glared at the couple who were sticking their thumbs up at the two on the ride. "fuckers," he mumbled under his breath, slouching back on the metal seat as the gate was locked and the wheel started moving. across from him scotty, whose breath was stuck in his throat, anxiously fiddled with the sleeves of his jumper. it was a cold night already, and up in the air, above the bright lights of the fairground, the crisp night sky enveloped the two in an icy embrace. scott shivered unintentionally, his teeth chattering together momentarily.
there was a silence for a minute, then marvel's voice broke through it. "you're cold."
it was a statement more so than it was any sort of question, but the other boy nodded anyway.
marcel unbuttoned his coat and took it off, holding it in his hands for a second and then looking up to meet scott's eyes. "take it."

after what they considered to be the latest success of their master plan, lui and david skipped back towards the group who had convened at the picnic bench with craig and brian, slushies and candy floss in hand.
"look who finally decided to stop giving each other handys behind the toilets and join us, ay?"
david playfully punched anthony who was laughing loudly at his own comment and then found a place to sit down beside the group.
"shut up jiggly, I'll have you know we were -"
"oh we really don't want to know what you were doing daithí, I've heard enough to last me a lifetime," brian's voice joked.
lui, red in the face, suddenly spoke up, in an attempt to move the subject to, well, anything else really. he looked around the group - "bryce feeling better?" he asked. a blonde head suddenly lifted up from where it was nestled in ryan's shoulder and nodded. "tip top shape," he joked, and the friends laughed while ryan softly rubbed small circles on his cheek and gently lay his head back down.
"and where's brock gone to?"
tyler pointed over at the food stand where brock was leaned ever so slightly over the counter talking to the girl working there. "flirting with the food chick."
he looked over at brian who was following the direction of tyler's finger with his eyes, his head leaning on his hand. "the one with the blonde hair... she's really pretty, don't you think so terroriser?"
brian looked down at the table and muttered a quiet yes which could barely be heard over the loud voices coming from their group and then stood up abruptly. "I'm going to the jacks," he said, and then walked away without even waiting for a reply.
