“Just do it, Clay!” Giggled Aaron as he and Lance pushed Clay towards Macy's room. Clay was trying to get away, scrambling about and making excuses. But they weren't going to let him go until he asked Macy on a date.
“But, guys.” He whined, finally giving up and letting himself get dragged along. “It's not that easy, asking someone on a date!” He huffed. Lance whirled around to face him, hair bouncing slightly. His eyes had a mischievous glint in them.
“How long have you fancied her?” He placed his hands on his hips.
“Um...about 5 years.” Clay stated. Lance grabbed his arm again.
“Then it's about time you told her how you feel.” They stopped outside of Macy's room. Aaron raised his hand to knock, but Clay caught it and brought it back down.
“Seriously, guys, I can't do this! What if she rejects me? What I'd she thinks I'm a freak? What if-”
“Clay, buddy, stop!” Aaron held a hand up in front of him to make Clay shut up. Then he brought it down and placed it on his shoulder. “Macy won't think you're a freak. And I'm pretty sure she won't reject you.” His voice was softer, more understanding. Before anyone could stop him, Lance knocked on Macy's door, then scarpered. Aaron slapped Clay's back before taking off after Lance. Clay sighed, then stood tall as he heard footsteps on the other side. The door swung open to reveal his crush.
“Oh, hey Clay, what's up?” Macy smiled at him, and he just stood and stared for a few seconds. He took a deep breath, and tried to speak, but couldn't. He tried again. Nothing happened. He just stood there, gaping like a goldfish. Macy tilted her head to one side. “Clay, are you ok?” She asked, concerned.
“I...er...um…” was all he got out, before he took off running down the corridor, cheeks burning. He was so embarrassed! Macy stared after him, looking slightly hurt.
“Why did he run away from me?” She asked herself sadly, before closing the door.

Meanwhile, Clay continued running into the forest, until he reached his sister's house. He pounded on the door.
“Alright, alright, I'm coming!” His sister's voice said, and she opened the door. “Clay?! What on earth is wrong? You look so flustered!” She said, stepping back to let him inside. She sat him down in a chair, and handed him a glass of water, which she got out of nowhere. Clay gulped down some water before taking a breath. “Ok, speak. What's wrong?” Phoebe questioned.
“A-Aaron and Lance tried to get me to ask Macy on a date-” Clay noticed Phoebe was trying to fight back a smile, but continued. “Anyway, we got to the point when we knocked on her door, and they ran away, leaving me alone. When she answered the door, I just stood there, looking stupid! Then I ran away. She probably thinks I'm a weirdo now.” Clay put his face in his palms. Phoebe was lost in thought for a minute, then had an idea.
“Follow me, Clay. I've got something that might help you.” Clay followed Phoebe a bit further into the forest, until they stopped next to a perfectly circular pool of water, about 10 metres across. Clay looked at the pool, then at his sister.
“How's this going to help?” He asked incredulously.
“You'll see. Now, watch me.” Phoebe winked at him, then closed her eyes. She took a step forward...right into the pool! But her foot didn't sink to the bottom. She took another step forward. She was now standing on the water. Clay's eyes widened in shock as he watch Phoebe slowly make her way across the water. As soon as she reached the other side, she opened her eyes. She laughed at Clay's shocked face.
“H-how...how did you do that?” Clay asked.
“Concentration. Clear your mind. Control it. Only think of calm things, like the steady trickle of water in a stream.” Phoebe said mysteriously. Clay grew sleepy just thinking about it. She took her brother's arm, and lead him to the pool. “Calm…” she whispered in his ear, giving him a little push forward. He closed his eyes, then took a step onto the water. He didn't fall through. He took a deep breath, then carried on. He was now in the middle of the water. Phoebe's words echoed through his head. “Calm...calm like the steady trickle water... concentrate...calm…” he didn't even realize he'd got to the other side until he heard clapping. He opened his eyes, and saw he was on dry land, the sister standing next to him and clapping. “Well done, Clay!” She said as she stopped clapping.
“D-did I just do that?” Clay scratched his head.
“Yep. Now you've calmed down, you can ask Macy out on a date.” Phoebe said. Clay stood tall.
“You're right. I will ask Macy on a date.” Clay said proudly.
“Good. Do you want me to walk you home?” Asked Phoebe.
“Er, yes, if that's no trouble?” Clay grinned, and the duo started walking towards the Fortrex.
