There was a bang. A big bang.
Aaron and Phoebe jumped apart, as did many others around them. The big screen over head was crackling and fizzing. Then it started turning green. It seeped across the billboard, and into the wires. Something bad was happening. All of a sudden, a face appeared. And it was a face no one ever wanted to see…
“MONSTROX!!!” People screamed as they ran. It was total chaos! Aaron grabbed Phoebe's hand, and dragged her through the crowds trying to get out.
“I'm baaaaack! Did ya miss me?” Monstrox boomed, smirking.
“Holy mother of Merlok, what is that?!” Lance had joined Aaron and Phoebe, Axl just behind him. Small, bug-like creatures were spilling from the wires, and jumping into anything electronic that could find. Squire-bots were glitching around, their blue lights turning green. “Dennis!” Lance cried as he watched his robot squirm around. But it was too late. Dennis looked up slowly, his blue LED eyes green.
“Sorry, Sir Lance, I have a job to do.” He smirked, then lunged forward, clinging onto Lance's leg.
“NO!” Someone shouted, and Dennis was on the floor, sparks flying out of his neck. The others looked around and saw Clay and Macy. Clay's Nexo arm had formed into a sword, and he was hitting the bugs away. “Come on, we've gotta move!” He yelled, and everyone nodded. Ava, Robin, and Jestro started running with them. Then Macy stumbled and tripped. Phoebe did the same. Their dresses were too long. After some quick thinking, Clay and Aaron nodded at each other, then scooped the girls into their arms. Clay carried Macy bridal style, while Aaron carried Phoebe. Ava kicked off her shoes and started running, barefoot. They reached the Fortrex, and rushed inside. Aaron and Clay placed the girls down as soon as they got inside.
“What shall we do?” Asked the king. He and the queen had been carried by Mechlok to the Fortrex.
“We must fight back, and protect the people!” Clay exclaimed.
“We need to change!” Lance said. Everyone rushed off. Phoebe just stood there in a blue ball gown, looking around.
“Phoebe! You can borrow some of my clothes!” Macy called. And within 5 minutes, the knights were geared up, weapons at the ready. Phoebe was now wearing a denim jacket over a black top and some jeans she'd borrowed from Macy.
“Ok, knights! We must protect the people! Get everyone out, and fight back anything that comes near you!” Clay instructed, and the knights nodded. They hurried past the king and queen, out of the Fortrex, and back into the Joustdome. Ava began typing on her key immediately. Robin and Jestro stayed behind with her.
“Robin, load the main canon, and shoot anything coming our way. I fear there is something far worse to come…” Merlok said.
“On it!” Replied Robin, and he sprinted off to the roof. Merlok turned to Phoebe.
“Phoebe, you go with him. You're good with a bow and long distances.”
“But I left mine at home.” Said Phoebe.
“We've got spare in the room nextdoor.” Ava said, not taking her eyes off the screen. Phoebe nodded, ran into the room, grabbed a bow and quiver of arrows, and ran to the roof. Robin was already there, loading the canon. Phoebe took a place on the turret, while Robin sat in the seat. Phoebe loaded her bow, scanning the ground. Screaming people were dashing around, being chased by small creatures.
“Oh no…” Phoebe looked scared. Then...she saw someone. Someone hiding behind a tree and cackling. Some who looks terribly like her mother. But evil. “Mother…” uncontrollable anger started bubbling through her veins. She clenched her fists around her bow. Her mother - her mother - was hurting innocent people. Without any planning, Phoebe vaulted the wall of the Fortrex.
“Where're you going?!” Screamed Robin, shooting down some bugs. But Phoebe ignored him. She thundered toward the trees, Ruina Stoneheart still in sight. Her mother turned and spotted her coming. At first, she looked confused. Then, her face split into an evil smirk as she realised who it was. She took off into the forest, her daughter still chasing her. Through the trees they ran, twigs and branches snapping as they passed.
“Get back...here! Please! Talk...to me! Why are you...doing this?” Phoebe panted, pushing a branch out of the way. Ruina just gave an evil laugh, and carried on running. “Please!” Phoebe begged. They have made their way into a clearing, the moon shining through the leaves. Ruina stood at one end, her back facing her daughter. Phoebe clutched a stitch in her side, her bow still in her hand. “W...why are you doing this?” She panted. Ruina whipped around, yellow eyes gleaming.
“You should never have followed me, you foolish girl!” Spat her mother. Her staff started to glow, and Phoebe aimed her bow towards her.
“You were hurting innocent people! You…” Phoebe gasped as realisation washed over her. “It was you! You brought Monstrox back! You planned all this!” The string on her bow creaked as she pulled it back further.
“Clever girl.” Her mother cooed, taking a step toward her. “But you-” she cut off, staring at Phoebe. Phoebe's eyes were glowing green. “...how are you doing that?” Ruina asked.
“Doing what?” Phoebe never took her eyes off her mother.
“Why are your eyes glowing green?” Demanded the witch. Phoebe shrugged.
“I dunno. It just...happens. Why do you care, anyway?” Phoebe shouted the last part.
“Because I am your mother!” Screeched Ruina, her staff glowing brighter.
“But you were never there for me! Please, mum, we can fix this.” Phoebe calmed down slightly, bit still hadn't lowered her bow. Her mother was offended by what her daughter had said. Lightning bolts started erupting from her hair, and she pointed her staff at Phoebe.
“Stupid girl! I didn't have a choice when I turned evil! The master made me evil. And you know what? I actually like being this way. I don't have to care about anyone else! I am a powerful, great sorceress, and I will rid of you!” Ruina screamed, her chest heaving.
“I'm your daughter, and Clay's your son!” Said Phoebe.
“I have no daughter or son! He was never meant to become a goody goody knight! You were never meant to join them! You were never even meant to see him again!” Ruina hissed. Tears welled in Phoebe's eyes.
“Please, mother, please-” she began, but Ruina cut her off.
“I've had enough! Let's just get on with it!” Ruina yelled, pounding her staff on the floor.
“Get on with what?” Phoebe had hardly got the words out her mouth when Ruina shot a spell at her. It hit her full in the chest, knocking the air out of her. She felt a searing pain in her head, and her vision started going blurred. “What...did you...do?” Phoebe's voice sounded distant and echoey, and the last thing she saw was her smirking mother, before everything went black…
