Clay and Macy checked there was no one else in the room, then headed towards Merlok. Inconveniently, he was asleep, so they had to wake him up. Macy hit a button and he glitched awake, shrieking like his hair was on fire.
“WHAT?! WHERE AM I?! WHAT DO YOU WANT?!” Then he spotted the two standing in front of him. “Oh, Clay, my dear boy, what can I do?” He asked, cooling his head.
“There's, er, something I need to talk to you about.” Clay began telling his uncle about the dream he'd had the previous night. And somehow, Macy being there made the whole thing a lot easier. She seemed to calm him. When Clay had finished, Merlok looked slightly uncomfortable, maybe even nervous.
“...so, er, that's what happened. Can you explain it?” Clay finished, looking at Merlok, who shifted slightly.
“Well, um, I can explain it, it's just…” he sighed, looking Clay in the eye.
“What? What haven't you told me? I need an answer or I'll die of curiosity.” Macy put a hand on Clay's shoulder to calm him down. She felt him tense, then relax.
“Now, Clay, you can't take this the wrong way, but I, er, haven't been entirely truthful about your past. You see,” he took a deep breath, “you have a sister. The silhouette in your dream was your sister.” He said the last part really fast, as if doing that would make the whole thing easier. Clay and Macy froze, open mouthed, staring at Merlok. He seemed quite relieved to get that off his chest.
“I have a...a...sister?” Said Clay quietly.
“Yes. A twin sister, to be exact.” Said Merlok.
“And her name is?”
“Phoebe. Phoebe Moorington.”
“And where can I find her?”
“Ah, well, I don't know exactly but…”
“But?”
“She lives deep in the Dark Wood.”
“The Dark Wood?” Macy had joined the conversation now. “Who would live there?”
“She likes being alone. It might be difficult finding her, but then again she'll probably find you.”
“When can I find her?” Clay wanted to know.
“Well, I'm not stopping you now,” Merlok smiled as Clay's eyes lit up, “I haven't seen her in a while.”
“Can Macy come with me?” Clay was literally shaking with joy.
“I don't see why not. If it's ok with Macy, that is.”
“I'd love to come.” Macy was happy for Clay, who gave her a squeeze. She could tell he was excited.
“We should go now,” Said Clay, grabbing her hand, “thanks, Merlok!” He called from the door, and his uncle laughed at his excitement.
