Chapter 25: Selfish Desire

Hospital Hallway

I stood in front of a vending machine, exploring the options to satisfy my sweet tooth.

I look past the chips and look directly at the snicker bar.

One left.

Jackpot!

I put my dollar note into the machine and press the button for number and letter.

The door to my left bursts open as police officers and men in suits hurry along.

What's going on?

The authority looks frantic.

You don't see men in suits unless there are abilities involved.

A nurse runs by and I grab her arm.

"Sorry Miss! But what's going on? Did something happen to one of the patients?"

The nurse shakes her head.

"There's an Asteroid fight happening at the rooftop. The authorities are handling the issue now so don't worry."

I let go of her arm and the nurse jogs down the hallway.

There are multiple people I know with abilities that could be in this fight right now.

I turn to the hallway, but my peripheral vision picks up a large spike of ice falling past the window to my left.

My heart pounds faster as my heartbeat overpowers my hearing.

I could feel a wave of fear wash over me, like a small boat being enveloped by a storm.

That large amount of ice reminds me of her. It can't be her.

I move forward to the window and unclip the lock on the windowsill and pull it open.

More ice passes down as I poke my head out.

My eyes flutter open when I notice two people being pushed off.

Holy shit!

I could barely see what the people look like but they were coming down fast.

Suddenly a wave of impact shatters the window and pushes me back onto the floor.

What was that!?

I quickly pull myself up and sprint towards the window. As I make it to the shattered windowsill, I see Kieu falling directly in front of me.

Everything around me felt slow.

"KIEU!"
