I step down from the shower and walk to the crowd that has now formed around the third pool, everybody's face having a whatsgonnnahappen all over it.

Ozor stretches out his hand and I sigh, ignoring him. When it comes to competition, you'd be a fool to have an opponent as a friend. Fact.

"Ouch!" went the junior students and the seniors, "Mahd o!"

"Alright boys, take your position," Mr. Paul announces and we both studge our way up the restricted area, the stairs of the third pool which has a ladder over seven ft or more. Restricted because not everybody can swim.

"You do know this isn't necessary. I don't really care about the black shark shit anyways," Ozor says as we both stand on our respective ladders.

"Is that fear?" I ask with a chuckle.

"Of beating you, yeah," he laughs. "Just joking."

"Are you ready?" Mr. Paul yells.

"Yes," we chorus and I take in a deep breath, preparing myself for the race.

"Sharks get set! And.........go!" he yells and immediately, the tension rises to a hundred and forty six percent. Everyone stares and water goes everywhere as we both dive into the pool.

I realize he dived earlier than I did and he took a greater stance. I flap as fast as I can and my hands keep going in motion. I want to see how far he has gone but I can barely even focus. My mind is everywhere and my body is bent on getting to that tile first.

It all goes quiet and I can tell everyone had their heart in their mouth as to see who the real champ is. With all the energy in me, I move as fast as I can.

Though blurred, I can see the tile and my heart raises in joy until I suddenly hear cheers and screams but ..... I'm still in the water. How is that even possible?

I finish the race only to see Ozor panting heavily and his body already out of the water which automatically means he won the race. How?

All the attention suddenly goes to him and I still try to recollect what just happened because it still seems like a dream to me. So unreal but yet, it's the reality.

"Don't worry. Just like me, you'll get used to it," I hear a voice from behind me and turn to see Waje beside me with a can of chi exotic in her hand. She hands me another and I take it, not really having much of a choice.

"What do you mean by that?" I ask, turning to her.

"Don't you see it? Wow! That dude literally has spotlight thief written all over his face. If you aren't careful, you might just be the shadows,"

I stare at her in anger and then at the outrageous crowd mind kissing his feet. It is useless calling for a rematch so I just stomp out of the swimming area to the change room. I grab a towel and clean off my body, change back into my uniform and start to leave.

"O boy what happened there?" Nonso asks.

"Omo see I don't know. I - just fashi," I say and barge out in fury back to class.

Matthew and the rest are no where to be seen, so they were obviously at some corner with girls. As usual.

I slump on my seat immediately I get to the class and don't realize Adam's presence till he raises his head up and stares at me.

"Pretty rough way to introduce our new guests. I don't think you want a repeat of suspension and you know what that means. EXPULSION." Adam says, spelling out his last word.
