After two long weeks of waiting I got a call from one of the jobs that I applied it was working at the senior center, I love talking with old people they tell all kinds of stories. Today was my first day on the job, I was in charge and doing the games and helping out in the kitchen making breakfast and lunch. The manager gave me my name badge and uniform, she also told me everything I needed to know to work here. Usually my shifts my shift goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but since is my first day I'm just doing the games, the classic bingo that old people love playing

"If you have any questions you can just ask me" my manager offered

"Ne, gamsahabnida"

I entered the room and saw a bunch of old people sitting in tables waiting for me to start the game.

"Annyeonghaseyo, my name is Abigail, I am new here so please forgive me if I do something wrong, gamsahabnida!"

I proceeded to the game board and begin yelling out numbers. After an hour of shouting numbers, somebody had finally yelled bingo, an elderly woman with thick glasses came to the front

"Congratulations, come with me and I'll give you a prize" I spoke

she slowly follows me to the storage room, the winner got a coupon for a bookshop. I handed her her prize

"Wow, thank you so much, you know, has anyone ever told you you look very stunning?" she giggles, I smile at her comment

"Thank you but unfortunately no one has"

"Well those men are blind, you need to loosen up and build some confidence young lady" she teased. This lady is really funny I thought

"Haha, ok I'll take that advice, what's your name?" I asked

"Doris, I used to be a famous K-pop Idol back when I was younger"

"Jinjaya? my brother is in training for becoming a Kpop idol!"

"Wow what a small world, our group was called Wonder girl I was the leader of the group"

"It's such an honor to meet you, maybe you can show me some pictures sometime?"

"Ne, you seem like a nice girl, I like you, I'll see you later Abigail" she flashes me with a smile

"Okay sounds great!"

I continue doing my work, cleaning the dishes in the kitchen, sadly I was the only one since it was a weekend. When my shift was done I packed my belongings and lock the room. As I was about to leave Doris sees me and quickly grabs my attention

"Abigail wait!"

I turn around and see her coming towards me

"Can I give a request for tomorrow's game night?" she asks

"Um, sure"

"Well I was thinking we can do a karaoke night, it's been so long since we've had one, the other lady that was before you was so boring. It would be nice to have a change?"

I thought about it, I wouldn't get in trouble for anything since I'm in charge of the games. I could just let the manager know about it, I'm sure she'll say yes

"Okay I'll get everything set up tomorrow"

she squeals in excitement and pats my back

"Oh thank you so much!"

"No problem, I should be heading back home"

I bow at her for respect before leaving. On the walk home I thought about Doris's suggestion, the number of old people singing in one room would be exhausting listening to them, but I needed to have a positive mindset like, the only thing that is keeping me from moving forward was the mission that I'm still struggling with.

"Abigail you should give it a try!" Doris exclaimed

"Well, I don't want to steal the show here" I mumbled

"Whoever wants Abigail to sing for us raise your hand"

I look around the room and every single old person's hand was raised

"Well I guess I have to do it"

I take the microphone and proceed to the front. As I promised Doris we were doing the karaoke night. Everyone was doing great until Doris forced me to sing. I never have sung in front of an audience before, I love singing but only in the shower when no one can hear me, now this is taking a huge step for me. As I was going on the list of songs I noticed one particular song that I recognized 'Euphoria' the one the appa sang. I grabbed the microphone and started singing the song

"~You are the cause of my euphoria~"

I was feeling the music inside and out, this was one of my favorite songs that appa wrote. After finishing the song everyone clapped for me, I take a bow and passed the mic to Doris

"Honey, that was spectacular, you have an incredible voice! Have you ever thought of becoming a singer?"

I was shocked by the compliment, I never knew I was that good, maybe it runs in the family?

"Not really, I never thought of myself being that good"

She gives me a surprising look

"Hey, if I became famous by singing then you can too, I know talent when I see one"

she quickly grabs the microphone and starts to sing another song leaving me to think about what she told me. Becoming famous with my voice, could that be a sign for the thing I've been looking for?

Another day of exhaustion, I'm not complaining but just I'm drained out. Cleaning and entertaining old people are so much work, but Doris still left me thinking about the idea of singing. Eomma and Appa also did a lot of singing. I remember when I was younger they would sing me lullabies and stories of how they met. When I was 10 years old they were always producing and singing all the time, mostly eomma, Appa didn't know much about producing, he always had my uncle's to do it for him or the company would pay someone to do it if they were really busy. Maybe singing could be my missing piece, I grew up surrounded by music, for the first time it makes sense.

I went to see what Appa was doing, he was at his computer, I think he's working on the new song he mentioned to us earlier. I came up to him and tapped him on the shoulder he startles as he did not hear me

"Oh, Abigail please don't do that while I have my AirPods in!"

"Mianhae, but this is kind of important"

He closes his computer and takes his glasses off giving his full attention to me.

"So after coming back from the senior center I was singing the karaoke machine and one of the ladies told me that my voice was so good, which left me thinking, I think I that I could become famous, so I wanted to ask you if you could help me with it?"

He nods his head with approval

"Ne okay, I have an idea"

he opens his computer again and shows me the studio where he works in.

"This is where I do most of my recording, the people in the back control the sound of music, if you wanted to you could sing the song that you eomma was working on, you told me that you were finishing it right?"

"Ne but it's still not ready yet, I'm still stuck with the last bit of the song"

"Okay that's fine, you could just sing what you have, I'll get your uncles to come to watch you, maybe they could give you some advice"

I smile, I thought he would just consider it but this idea might work

"Okay gamsahabnida appa"

"Anieyo (you're welcome) I'm glad you're finally doing something you new"

He leans in for a hug, I did have the best Appa, he's been with me through thick and thin but no matter where life takes us he always be there for me.
