"What do you think you're doing?"

Integrity Knight Asuna kicked the chest plate of the knight sprawled out on the floor, head resting on his hands.

Integrity Knight Kirito opened an eye and gave her a half lidded stare. "Resting. Why, do you want to join? It must be tiring standing around in that heavy armor all day."

The chestnut haired swordswoman placed her hands on her hips. "You've got to be kidding me. How are you even an Integrity Knight? You couldn't protect the church if you tried!"

"Sure I could," he replied as he closed his eyes again. "I just save my energy for when I actually need to."

"You need to now! There's an intruder climbing the floors of this church as we speak. You can't be napping when he comes through that door!"

"You'll be here to wake me up, won't you?" He flashed an impish grin to her. She groaned and spun around, plopping down on the floor beside him with her arms wrapped under her thighs.

"I can't believe I was instructed to partner with you," she complained. "It's almost insulting!"

Kirito sat up and used his hands to prop himself up. "Ouch. Look on the bright side, Asu."

Asuna gave him a piercing glare.

"I-Integrity Knight Asuna," he corrected hastily. "Sorry. Anyways, look at it this way. With the two of us working together, the intruder won't stand a chance!"

She hummed in thought and shrugged. "...I guess so."

"And maybe we can get some dinner once we've pummeled them."

She sprang up and drew her rapier, pointing it just under his chin. Beneath her bangs, she was blushing a beet red.

"N-Not on your life, you fake knight!"

He raised his hands in defeat and scooted away from the deadly tip of her sword. He hauled himself to his feet and dusted off his shining black armor.

Asuna sheathed her sword and crossed her arms, walking back over. Kirito rubbed his stomach as it growled obnoxiously.

"Shush."

"It's not me. It's my stomach."

"Well, make it shush!"

"I—" The black haired knight gave up arguing and crossed his arms, looking away dramatically. "Whatever."

Asuna gave a "hmph" and looked the other way. After some time, her own stomach rumbled at an embarrassing volume.

Kirito turned to look at her with a smug grin. She turned even farther away, now facing her back to him.

"Miss Asunaaa."

She ignored him, her brows knitted.

"Miss Asuna, I have a surprise for you."

She opened her mouth to shoot a bitter retort, but a sweet aroma kept her silent. She slowly peeked over her shoulder to see his stupid face, and two honey rolls in his black-gloved hand.

"...I hate you," she mumbled, turning to face him. He smiled wider and dropped one in her hand.

"You're welcome."

The two knights sat leaning against the wall of the giant room, bellies full. Asuna felt her eyes grow heavy, and eventually her head began to bob.

The black clad knight beside her has his hands behind his head as he watched her nod off.

Being her partner for the past few days had given him a chance to learn more about her. She was a restless soldier, with incredible intellect and speed that surpassed even him, the dual wielding warrior.

He also noticed that when she overworked herself, she would rub her eyes like a stubborn child and push through her training. He noticed that when she was frustrated, she'd grit her teeth, close her eyes, and let out a big sigh. He noticed that when she grew irritated by his stupid jokes and puns, she'd bite her lip to hide her smile.

His started to lift his hand to brush her hair out of her face, but was stopped as he heard footsteps.

Asuna must've heard them too, because she shot up in a flash. She looked around, pausing as she spotted Kirito watching her. She tilted her head as she examined his childish features. Then a thought occurred to her.

"You let me fall asleep!" She yelped, holding her hand over her mouth.

He smiled innocently and shrugged. "I'll take that as a thank you. You were obviously exhausted. You can't defend the church if you're half asleep."

She glared at him for a long moment, then sighed. As much as he got on her nerves, he really was a sweet guy. He packed extra food for her, let her rest...

"Miss Asuna." His voice snapped her out of her thoughts. He pointed to the door leading to the lower floors. "I think the intruder's coming."

She nodded, and they both walked until they reached the center of the room. She placed her hand on her sword, but he stopped her.

"Not yet. I want to at least hear them out before we kick their butt." He flashed a dorkish smile at her.

She returned the smile and nodded. "Sure. And, Kirito..."

"Yeah?"

"After we win, I think I'll take you up on the dinner offer."

He grinned and saluted with two fingers.

"Aye aye, Miss Asuna. Let's make this fight quick."

"Just Asuna's fine."

He nodded with a sparkle in his eyes, and they both turned to face the large door as it slowly pushed open.
