AU—Kirito and Asuna are students at Swordcraft Academy in Centoria
"Crap, crap," Kirito grunted as he raced through the town with a paper bag in his hand. Considering how long he'd been gone, he was almost sure Ronie and Tiese were done with their cleaning duties by new. Tiese wasn't an issue, since Eugeo was still in the dorm, but Ronie was his own primary trainee. That meant that until he returned and dismissed her, she couldn't leave.
Finally reaching the Swordcraft Academy campus, he took a sharp turn and bolted through the grass. His and Eugeo's dorm wasn't all that high, so he often climbed through their window when coming from the east side. Compared to going all the way through the building lobby, it was much quicker.
Once Kirito spotted his window he crouched, preparing to jump, and then—
"What do you think you're doing?!" Just as his feet left the ground, a hand snatched his collar and yanked him back.
"Ouch!" The student exclaimed as he stumbled back, the only thing keeping him from falling on his rear being the hand that kept a firm grasp on his uniform.
"Oh come on, that couldn't have hurt." The person let go of his collar and let him fall. "I'll ask again. What are you doing?"
Kirito landed on the ground with a thump and looked up at the girl in a red and white uniform. The girl in question was Elite Disciple Asuna Yuuki. She was seated second in the class, succeeded by the questionable Elite Disciple Raios Antinous.
Asuna sighed and stuck out a hand. He snapped out of his thoughts and took it gratefully, dusting himself off when he stood.
"Sorry, I spaced out for a second." Kirito offered a smile, which she returned with a stern look.
"You were coming from East Third Street, Elite Disciple Kirito." She pointed out. "There's no way you would've been able to dismiss your trainee from cleaning duties and make a round trip in such a short time."
He laughed awkwardly. "Is that so? Your logic's as good as ever, Elite Disciple Asuna. It's no wonder you're the best in the class."
She tugged his ear. "Stop saying that. You know that I'm second seat, and there's no point in joking around like that."
"Sorry," Kirito sighed. In his opinion, Asuna was much more deserving of the top seat. He was convinced Raios had pulled some sort of trick in that duel, but when he'd brought it up to her afterward he got nothing but a freezing glare.
"Anyways," she shook her head. "Back to what's important. Where is your trainee?"
"Ah," he crossed his arms and peered up at the dorm building. "If I had to guess, I'd say she's sitting awkwardly on the couch while Eugeo's apologetically serving her tea."
She pulled his ear again. "I'll never understand how Elite Disciple Eugeo puts up with you. Honestly, you're polar opposites!"
"Ow, ow!" His right hand shot up and grabbed hers instinctively. Instantly realizing his mistake, he dropped his hand and switched the paper bag from his left hand to the other.
Asuna blushed and pulled her hand away, noticing the bag in his hand. "What's so important you ditch your trainee for anyway?"
Kirito immediately grinned and rummaged in the bag, pulling out a honey pie. "Only the best food in Centoria. If you let me go through the window I'll give you one."
"Mmh," she momentarily paused to take in the sweet smell of the pies but quickly snapped out of it. "No, are you crazy? You could fall. Or worse—you could damage the building!"
