My eye lids once more threaten to close as I walk. Not being able to sleep well--or at all for that matter--for three days, takes a lot out of you. My feet are practically dragging as I leave my class. That was my last class so I go to my locker to pack up for home, I take forever so almost everyone is gone, though I'm still getting ready. I don't take a bus so I take my time, to prevent hurting myself more.
"Hey Wes, why don't you come here?" I ignore the voice as I always do. "Hey I'm talking to you!" Yells the voice. He grabs my shoulder and whips me around forcing me to face him. I just stare at the ground.
"Look at me Wes!" He says, shoving me. I stumble back a few steps, still standing. That is when I look up to see his fist hit my face. Just below my eye.
I fall to the ground and feel the pain spread as he starts to kick me. After a few he stops, giving me just enough time to stand before he does what I am expecting. But, before he can I start to fall backwards. This time, rather than hit the ground, I am caught. Cole stands holding me at his side, so I don't fall.
"Hey! Leave her alone!" He screams his face red with anger, voice filled with rage. "She didn't do anything to you!"
"Cole it's me, Eddy. I'm on your team." Says the boy-Eddy. Holding his hands up in a surrendering gesture.
"I know that, but that doesn't change the fact that you can't beat Kay up!" He screams back.
"Come on! You know me! Now help me beat up this freak!"
"No! And I suggest you leave her be from now on!" He screams.
"Oh yeah? Or what?" Replies Eddy with a smug grin on his face.
Cole then leans to my ear and whispers, "can you stand?" I nod. He gently lets me go and I see his muscles tense, knowing what he will do, I look away.
His fist hits Eddy square in the nose with a loud crack. Definitely broken. I look back over to see blood pour out Eddy's nose. This was enough for him because he starts backing away crying out in pain, hands holding onto his nose.
"Okay, okay! I'm leaving!" He says, almost begging not to have Cole go near him.
I fall once more to the ground, as my legs collapse beneath me. Cole is quickly by my side, holding me in a sitting position. He puts his hand to my face lightly touching my eye. Eddy's hand may have missed my eye, but the cheek he hit was already swollen.
"We have to get you to the hospital. You're bleeding all over and starting to swell up." He says worriedly.
"No not there," I say weakly as I start to faint. "Please I can tell you why later but just not there, anywhere but there, and home, I can't go home." The desperation in my voice is clear as I look him in the eyes.
My eyes grow heavy and begin to close. Then everything goes black.
