I raced back the castle ready to take on Acantha. She could do what she liked to me, threaten me, try to kill but my friends...not ever.
I was enraged for the first time in a very long time. I marched through the castle and eventually heard the silvery tone of Acantha coming from the throne.
"You daughter my king, " she said in a worried tone that was oh so clearly false. "She cannot be trusted I fear she means to betray you, "
I shoved open the large black doors and threw myself at Acantha throwing her fiercely into the wall. This was before the king I could use it to my advantage.
"You dare challenge my loyalties!" I yelled in her face. My red eyes bored into her grey ones.
For once she was actually scared. Apparently, she had never thought I could be capable of such anger.
"I..." She didn't know what to say.
I growled and threw her to the floor which she slammed into with a thud. I didn't even glance at my father but I could feel his eyes on me.
"Do you question my loyalties?" I asked again my voice low and threatening.
"No Araniel, "
"Its Princess to you, " I sneered.
"Forgive me, Princess, " she said. All of her calm and collected attitude had fallen away so quickly and now still sprawled on the floor she almost seemed like a different person.
"What do you want to do with her?" My father asked with a sly grin.
"I'll think the dungeons will do nicely for now. While I think of a better punishment, " I concluded.
"Guards, " He called.
"No Father. I'll take her myself."I grabbed Acantha and dragged her off the ground them shoved her in the way of the door.
"Walk, " I commanded.
She followed my orders without any word at all.We walked through the dark corridors then down as staircase where all light and hope seemed to fade more and more the deeper you went. The place was damp and smelt like despair.
"You'll be right at home here, " I said as we reached the bottom of the stair. I couldn't wait to dump her in here and leave. Acantha remained silent.
"What no snide remarks? No 'Look at me I am superior to you Araniel?"
"I will kill you for this, " she muttered.
"No, you won't. Because if you come after me I'll kill you first. You've hurt one of my dearest friends. You will pay for that." I nodded to one of the guards who then unlocked the grimy rusted cell door. I pushed Acantha in and she stumbled slightly.
"I won't be in here forever Araniel. I have friends in high places, " She yelled back her usual bite with a hint of superiority complex had returned.
"And I'm higher than all of them, " I replied with a smirk on my lips.I climbed the stairs once more feeling proud of myself and rather pleased with the fact that I had finally put her in her place somewhat. She had always been putting me down looking back now. But at that point, I had no one at all. I didn't really know whether the way she was treating me was good or not or at least I chose to see it as good. As I said I had no one back then no one at all.
Filled with a new determination, I decided. should start getting the rest of my plan into action but of course, first I needed to take care of Laeanna.
I headed back towards the entrance to the castle when someone stopped me. He was tall and had jet black hair.
"Where are you going, little Princess?" He asked with a sickening grin.
"Nowhere that concerns you, " I snapped snatching my wrist from his ice-cold grasp.
"Oh but I think it is. It is my job to monitor the comings and goings of everyone, " he said.
"Yes but you never did that for Acantha did you?"
A look of surprise flickered across his features but it left just as quick as it had arrived.
"I thought so. So unless you want me to tell my father, your King, of your failure to follow his orders correctly I shall be on my way. Yes?"
"Of course Princess. My apologies." He bowed low before slinking off to whatever dark dank hole he had emerged from in the first place. As soon as I was out of view once more I dashed through the forest hoping I had remembered the correct way back to the small wooden structure. I hope Laeanna was still there if she had broken free and headed for the castle she would be in serious danger.
I stopped.
I had seen a flicker of long brown hair out of the corner of my eye.
"Laeanna!" I called out.
"Ara!" She ran over to me and gave me a hug.
"What happened to the one who trapped me?"
"Locked up for now and she will stay there until I think of some other punishment for her, "
"You're going back?" Laeanna's purple eyes filled with sadness. "But you're free? And I am safe and so are Astra and Thranduil, ""Not for long Laeanna. They will try to take Mirkwood. I know they will. But they still need to work out all the rupture between their ranks first. I can stop them I can send them into a self-destructive spiral. After I've done that I can come home knowing that we will all be safe, "
"Ara that is a hard task to accomplish by yourself, "
"It is a task I can only do by myself. I cannot- I will not risk anyone else's life on this, "
"Araniel. You have already been away for a year. How much longer is this going to take? Why can't we just go back and then return with all the might of the Mirkwood army, "Laeanna was always filled with such a fierce attitude and a fighting spirit. I admired her so much for it and if I was going to pull off what I wanted to I would need to replicate it.
"Not long I promise. Once this is done I will return to you all. The fact that I will see you all again is the only thing that keeps me going but you being in danger is what makes me stay, "
"Your hair." Laeanna looked at me with concern. "It's so much darker." She stepped away from me.
"Ara, what have you been doing?"
"What I have to, " I said determinedly. I have to make her hate me to make her go. So be it. I would lose my closest friend but at least she would be safe and probably better of without me anyway."Ara come back now before you lose the woman you have become, "
"I must do this Laeanna!" I yelled. Which had her shocked. I had never even raised my voice at her before.
She stepped back further and shook her head then she turned and left with tears in her eyes.I headed back to the castle and went straight to my dark dull room. Only then did I break down.
"What have I done?"
